Meet the first 1 Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4670 Graphics Card

October 7th, 2008 by Kristofer

CHATSWORTH, CA —September 30, 2008— Diamond Multimedia (www.diamondmm.com), a leading manufacturer of PC graphics cards, sound cards and communications products, launched today the ATI Radeon™ HD 4670 graphics card. The 4600 series of cards boast up to 3 times the performance of the previous generation of GPUs.

The HD 4670 is a single slot card, PCIE 2.0, with 1024MB of DDR3 memory and a clock speed of 750 MHz. The memory speed is 900 MHz, designed with 320 stream processors.

The HD 4670 provides plug-and-play ATI CrossFireX™ upgradeability with up to quad-GPU support. Making it fast and efficient is ATI’s Power Play and 55nm processing technology.

The Radeon HD 4000 series of GPUs delivers their superlative visual performance with a powerful new TeraScale engine that delivers high resolutions and fast frame rates. Unified Video Decoder 2 frees up the CPU for other tasks, especially the most processing-intensive content, including VC-1, H.264 and now MPEG-2. Take full advantage of Blu-ray functionality with dual-stream, picture in picture (PIP) capabilities. The ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series GPUs can upscale video display to 2560×1600 on dual-link monitors, which is almost twice the display resolution of 1080p displays. As with their predecessors, the Radeon 4000 series provides graphics support for the latest Microsoft® DirectX® 10.1 games and realistic 3D graphics and shading effects.

All Diamond video cards carry the Diamond guarantee of quality assurance. Unlike many cards that are simply first to market, Diamond carefully tests and retests every new model for its ratio of performance to reliability. Diamond is legendary in the PC video card business for its less than 1 percent return rate versus an industry average of approximately 10 percent. Diamond cards use superior connectors, cables and components, as well as undergo more thorough testing for heat susceptibility and durability.

Availability

Diamond Multimedia’s ATI Radeon HD 4670 will be available at Fry’s, Micro Center, Best Buy Canada, and Future Shop immediately. It will be available in E-commerce channels in the 3rd week of October

Sapphire Radeon HD 4550 Graphics Card

October 6th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Visual) - Sapphire Radeon HD 4550 Graphics Card

QUOTE: “The low to mid-range market has been heating up over the past few months; NVIDIA released the 9500 GT which I personally felt was a massive disappointment due to the price to performance ratio when compared to the 9600 GSO.

ATI / AMD hasn’t been asleep, though. The HD 4670 came out and has really managed to impress. The HD 4650 is also supposed to be out, but for some reason it hasn’t really shown up on the market. Adding to the HD 4000 series, however, is a new low-end entry level model; the HD 4550.”

Gainward GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB Graphics Card

October 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Visual) - Gainward GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB Graphics Card

QUOTE: “Like most companies, Gainward has released a 9800 GTX+, but unlike most other companies, they’ve taken the time to do something with it. Today we find out what exactly that is and if it can make the 9800 GTX+ a little more exciting.

Unlike the HD 4850 we looked at from Gainward the other day, this card doesn’t come in under the Golden Sample naming scheme. That doesn’t mean that it’s not going to be an exciting card, though, so let’s check out the package before we take a closer look at the card.”

AMD ATI Radeon HD 4550 Entry-Level GPU @ HotHardware.com

September 30th, 2008 by Kristofer

AMD continues their procession of new ATI Radeons today, with a couple of new entry-level offerings targeted at users who would like to upgrade from underpowered IGPs. Like the Radeon HD 4670 that came before it, the new Radeon HD 4550 and HD 4350 being rolled out today are based on the same GPU architecture first introduced with the popular Radeon HD 4800 series. The Radeon HD 4550 and HD 4350 both offer support for DirectX 10.1, DisplayPort, AVIVO with the UVD 2 engine, and CrossFire, although they do not have CrossFire bridge connectors like AMD’s higher-end offerings.  As such, these new entry-level cards sport virtually all of the same features as their more expensive, and more powerful, counterparts–they just perform on a different level.  Come on by the site and check it out.

Force3D Radeon HD 4870 Black Edition Graphics Card

September 30th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Visual) - Force3D Radeon HD 4870 Black Edition Graphics Card

QUOTE: “If you haven’t heard of Force3D before, you’re not alone. It wasn’t until the other day when I received an email from them that I knew of their existence. Concentrating on ATI based graphics cards, they have a full line-up of HD 4000 series cards starting from the HD 4650 and going all the way up to the HD 4870 X2.

The majority of their products currently consist of only using reference coolers it seems, but they have begun to diversify. The particular card we’re looking at today is the HD 4870 Black Edition which was only recently announced. The HD 4870 Black Edition from Force3D is packing some serious cooling, but before we get into that we’ll quickly take a moment to check out the package and bundle that Force3D have put together.”

Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Toxic Video Card @ Benchmark Reviews

September 30th, 2008 by Kristofer

TITLE: Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Toxic Video Card @ Benchmark Reviews

DESCRIPTION: Anyone who has heard of ATI video cards has probably heard of Sapphire Technology.  Sapphire is the largest producer of AMD/ATI graphics products in the world, and do far more than rebrand a product with their own label.  The Radeon HD 4000 series launched with tremendous success not long ago, and Sapphire has tweaked the design to produce their own high-performance Toxic Edition of the popular Radeon HD 4870 video card.  In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests their graphics card against the competition to find out if a factory-overclocked model is worth the money.

ATi Radeon HD 4670 vs. nVIDIA GeForce 9500GT @ InsideHW

September 29th, 2008 by Kristofer

InsideHW.com has posted article about ATi Radeon HD 4670 vs. nVIDIA GeForce 9500GT. You can read a clip from review:

“We must admit that in recent times we’ve unfairly neglected gamers with limited budget that don’t have many possibilities to set a certain sum aside for purchasing some graphics card from higher price range. Let’s face it, nor ATi nor nVIDIA were much better. From launching of GeForce 8600GTS and 8600GT and their price drop, nVIDIA did very little for this category of users. As “greens” are for some time occupied only with renaming of their products even these new low-cost graphics cards didn’t bring anything new, except for model GeForce 9600GT…”

MSI GeForce 9800 GT 512MB Graphics Card

September 29th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Visual) - MSI GeForce 9800 GT 512MB Graphics Card

QUOTE: “To date we’ve only looked at one other 9800 GT which came from Palit. As we have already discovered, the 9800 GT is nothing more than an 8800 GT with a new name. This isn’t the first time NVIDIA has done this and we don’t doubt for a second it will be the last time.

We knew before we even wrote our first review that the card would represent good value for money, but the aggressive launch price of the new model meant that it was even better than we expected. Today it’s time to see what MSI can do with the card; apart from going the aftermarket cooling route they’ve also got a nice little bundle going on.”

September 22nd, 2008 by Kristofer

TITLE: Palit Radeon HD 4870 Sonic Dual Edition Video Card @ Benchmark Reviews

DESCRIPTION: When everyone thought AMD was sinking into a dark abyss, ATI unvieled their Radeon HD 4000 series and proved the critics all wrong. Palit has followed-up this pattern by adding some stand-out features of their own. Benchmark Reviews tests the Palit Radeon HD 4870 Sonic edition video card from Palit.  This RV770 graphics solution offers factory overclocked perfomance and a new cooling solution.

Sapphire HD 4850 512 MB 100245L Own PCB Design @ techPowerUp

Sapphire HD 4850 512 MB 100245L Own PCB Design

Link:

Brief:
Sapphire has engineered their own version of the Radeon HD 4850 with cost and cooling in mind. The card’s new unconventional heatsink looks good and keeps the card cool - far below reference design temperatures. The best of all is that the card costs only $169.99 online which makes it the cheapest HD 4850 available today.

ATI Radeon HD 4670 Video Card Review

September 18th, 2008 by Kristofer

ATI Radeon HD 4670 Video Card Review motherboards.org

Author: Benjamin Sun Date: 09-17-2008

The market for video cards in the under $100 price range is rather crowded at the moment with 9600GT, 9600GSO, HD 4670 and the 8800GT all coming in nearly the same price as you can see from the chart earlier in the review and that’s the main issue with this card release. Previous mainstream cards like the HD 2600 and HD 3450 did not have the competition from other cards in this price point. The HD 4670 is a great card for what it was designed for. The ability to run every game out there especially those supporting DX10.1 means that the HD 4670 will play games with the full features turned on if you want to. ATI says that the HD 4670 consumes less than 75W under full load, meaning that it nearly offers the performance of the HD 3850 in almost every situation without the extra power that the HD 3850 requires to operate properly.

Quote from the review:
“Today the XFX GTX 280 XXX video card is up for review. This is the factory-overclocked version of the GTX 280 we looked at a few months back. The card shares the same features in common with the factory clocked GTX 280.
Support for NVIDIA PhysX, CUDA, and HDCP are standard. Of all the versions of the GTX 280 offered by XFX, the XXX has the highest clock speeds. ”

Gigabyte GeForce 9800GT 512MB Graphics Card @ APH Networks

September 13th, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: Gigabyte GeForce 9800GT 512MB Graphics Card @ APH Networks

* Description: What do you call a company that manufacturers the same car
under 50 different nameplates? Answer: General Motors. So, in that sense,
what do you call a company that markets the same graphics card under two
model numbers that indicate (supposed) separate generation of cards? Answer:
NVIDIA. Jokes aside, no one can deny that there are truths to these claims –
with the General Motors one having a bit of exaggeration, of course. The
ever-so-popular NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT was ever so popular amongst enthusiasts
and general consumers alike for its excellent performance; and even more so
considering the retail prices. That was approximately one year ago. Now,
tides have changed and ATI/AMD is returning to the game in the graphics front
with the performance-to-price leaders such as the 4850 and 4870. How about
taking the G92 based 8800GT and calling it a new product? Well, here we are,
with a 8800GT called a 9800GT. As most would know how the NVIDIA 9-series are
basically are mostly derived off the 8-series and not a completely new
generation (They are mostly G92’s and G94’s) — the 9800GT made it into the
9-series with a few minor updates. But trust us, it’s practically the same
thing — more info on the second page of this review. Therefore, in honor of
NVIDIA’s excellent branding job, we based this review off the Gigabyte 8800GT
TurboForce review with a few minor changes (We made it as similar as
possible, haha). Good thing Gigabyte made it a little more unique with a
custom built unit and an aftermarket Zalman HS/F. Let’s see how the 8800GT,
er, 9800GT, performs.

Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 in Crossfire

September 10th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Visual) - Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 in Crossfire

QUOTE: “While I had heard about the HD 4670 for a while and that it was going to be a 9500 GT DDR3 killer, I as usual didn’t really process it all until just the other day when the card arrived. What we need to find out today is how the card performs, what it offers and also what happens when we put two of these $79 USD cards together. Before we get stuck into all that, though, let’s have a look at the package Sapphire has put together.

With two HD 4670 cards in hand, what we will do today is compare the card against the 9500 GT DDR3 which sits in the same price bracket. Since we do have two that we will Crossfire, we will also throw the HD 4850 into the mix to see how two of these cards perform against it; just to give us an idea of what’s going on.”
