Article Url: http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/qnap_ts-509_pro_turbo_nas_review/
Article Snippet:
“Even excellent products usually have some minor issue that I come across during a review, but it was difficult to find anything negative at all to say about the TS-509. Everything about the setup was easy, from installing drives to configuring RAID to setting up the many additional features it offers. Once it was up and running, finding what I wanted was also easy due to the neatly organized interface.”

NEW CONTENT (Networking) - TRENDnet TEW-624UB 300Mbps Wireless N USB 2.0 Adapter
QUOTE: “Over the past few weeks we have looked at a couple of products from TRENDnet, including the 200Mbps Powerline AV Fast Ethernet Adapter Kit as well as the 300Mbps Dual Band Wireless N Gigabit Router.
Both are pretty good products and overall we were left thinking quite good things about TRENDnet and what they had sent us to review. Today we have another review of a TRENDnet product and this time it is the TEW-624UB (version B1.0R to be exact) 300Mbps Wireless N USB 2.0 adapter. It is designed to add wireless capability to your Windows 2000, XP or Vista desktop PC or notebook or as an upgrade over a slower wireless connection such as 802.11b.”

With all of the products out there today that use BlueTooth I can’t figure out why more desktop computer systems don’t come standard with it, or even motherboards with it, most laptops do, but not all. So you’ve got to go and buy a special adapter to enable BlueTooth on your computer if you wish to enable this functionality with your devices.
Today for review I’ve got a very small solution to that problem from our friends at USBFever, it’s called the World’s Slimmest USB Bluetooth Dongle, and while I’m not sure if it’s the World’s Slimmest it is very, very small, about the size of a quarter, so it will fit anywhere and you won’t have some ugly big USB Dongle sticking out of your computer to enable BT functionality. So continue on for a quick look at a great option to enable BT on your computers…

Eye-Fi Wireless SD Card Reviewed @ TheTechLounge
Quote:
“I’m of two minds on this wireless SD card. It’s clever, unique, relatively inexpensive, and essentially universal. It’s pretty, in a memory card sort of way. It has a couple of flaws that would be far from deal-breakers if, as a whole (hardware and software) it just did more. Without raw image support, this Eye-Fi creation will never be the memory card for professionals. Without open wireless networking support, it won’t help the traveling photographer. The direct-to-online photo service feature is cool, but indiscriminate, posting every underexposed, blurred up-nostril without remorse.”

Link: http://www.overclockersonline.net/?page=articles&num=1891
Quote: The Thecus N5200 Pro is no doubt, an awesome unit. It is flexible,
fairly easy to use, and it’s fast, oh let me tell you, it is fast. But, it
also is not without a few kinks. When it comes to hardware, Thecus knows a
thing or two and have assembled a cutting edge NAS powered by common
everyday off-the-shelf hardware tied together with a custom mini-ITX
motherboard, a combination resulting in unmatched performance.

OCIA.net has posted their review of the CradlePoint Technology PHS300 WWAN Router. Below is a direct quote from the review:
“WWAN is becoming more and more popular for business travelers and remote locations for internet connectivity. With a simple USB or PCMCIA card stuck in your laptop, you can pretty much connect from anywhere you can get cell service, and the bandwidth available on these wireless plans is about what you’d expect from an entry level DSL connection. Which means sooner or later you might think to yourself, “boy it sure would be nice to be able to share this big pipe with more users than just my laptop”.“

“Don’t let ‘network surveillance’ put you off. The NVR-1012 is an easy-to-use surveillance system that provides live video recording and real-time remote monitoring/playback, making it an affordable solution for providing day and night protection to your home and office. In order to bring more convenience and extra benefits in setting up a network surveillance system, QNAP has considerately selected two value-plus IP cameras for the NVR-1012. This way the kit can be set up quickly in a few simple steps without having to worry about additional networking equipment or peripherals. In addition, system configuration and recording/monitoring functions of the supplied network video recorder (NVR) are carried out via a Web browser, so no complicated software installation or configuration is required.”

QNAP TS-409 Pro Turbostation
Link:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/QNAP/TS409
Brief:
QNAP already added nearly every thinkable feature to their NAS firmwares. To make a new series innovation had to be found elsewhere. QNAP decided to double the capacity in their TS-409 Pro and add features to utilize this space. The four disks that the TS-409 Pro houses can therefore be put in any RAID level including 6. Besides adding RAID 5 and 6 support QNAP shows they take their RAID arrays seriously by adding support for online expansion and RAID migration. Combined with the already proven ease of use and list of software features the TS-409 Pro Turbostation promises to be a solid product.

Title: Tagan Icy Box NAS4220 NAS Enclosure @ Phoronix
Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12476
Summary: “Over the past few years we have looked at several Tagan power supplies such as the TurboJet 1100W and BZ 900W. However, their product selection is no longer limited to power supplies and they now produce several different desktop cases as well as a growing selection of storage devices. These storage products are part of their Icy Box family, which consists of 2.5″ and 3.5″ hard drive enclosures as well as NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices. One of these products is the Tagan Icy Box IB-NAS4220-B, which is a two-drive SATA NAS with support for RAID 0/1/JBOD. What makes this device more interesting to us is that it runs Linux and Tagan is more than happy to let its customers modify the unit and write their own software.”

“In the previous article devoted to benchmarking an engineering sample of a quad-core AMD Phenom we failed to “cross all t’s,” because this processor has a bug officially acknowledged by AMD. Now we have an AMD Phenom X4 9850 of B3 stepping, in which this bug is fixed. Since it’s the fastest CPU from AMD for now, it will be interesting to compare it to Intel processors.”

TITLE: QNAP NVR-1012 Wireless Network Surveillance Kit @ Benchmark Reviews
DESCRIPTION: The age old saying of “Love thy Neighbor” may still be heard on any given Sunday and will likely receive a positive reception. However, if the saying happened to be “Trust thy Neighbor” the response would most likely be a little different. Gone are the days where one can feel comfortable leaving their house or cars unlocked, trusting that your employees are honest, or even that the babysitter is not mistreating your child. It is rare that you walk into a store nowadays without being watched by electronic eyes. While to some that may be troubling, the fact of the matter is, it is becoming more and more a necessity. In the past, those high tech security systems were reserved for the business that was forced to justify the expense or the rich guy that could afford the rather large expense of not only purchasing the system but having it professionally installed.
Today Benchmark Reviews will be taking a look at a new product that hopes to reduce not only the cost barrier of the home/small office security system, but also virtually eliminate the installation hassle, the NVR-1012 from Qnap.
