Torchwood The Complete Second Series DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote
“I’m a huge fan of this show. I don’t proclaim that for many TV shows, trust me on this. I’m a M*A*S*H, WKRP in Cincinnati, Cheers, Bob Newhart, and Antiques Roadshow fan. I don’t spread my TV love too thin. I go for the classics and I do believe Torchwood is a classic. The characters are interesting beyond the standard ensemble formula. I am a sucker for immortality so Jack being unkillable and then Owen being undead, ohhhh it’s all good stuff for me.”

The Godfather Collection The Coppola Restoration Blu-Ray & DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote
“Godfather 1 and 2 are really quite old movies and the masters were pretty much full of scratches, the team at Zoetrope hired one of the leading film restorers in the country and set about the long arduous process of restoring it frame by frame. Using the latest technology they scanned in a original negative combined from various 35mm prints and then spent a whole year touching up the images frame by frame. The result is amazing.”

Schoolhouse Rock Election Collection Limited Edition DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote
“I think you know my over all view of this DVD. Nostalgia, quality production, great menus, and lots of fun to be had here. If this is just an American “thing” and you have lived on other parts of the planet, away from the School House Rock radar I’m not sure how much of an impact these little short animations will have on you. But I highly recommend giving them a view.”

The Love Guru Blu-Ray & DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote
“The Love Guru, like many of Mike Myer’s DVDs has a ton of deleted scenes and bloopers, which are honestly quite funny. It is worth watching some of the bloopers just to see how much fun they had making this movie. Some of the deleted scenes (especially one featuring Verne Troyer supposedly skating) are left out of the film for good reason, but some seemed to me to be needed to advance the (limited) story….”

Baby Mama Blu-Ray & DVD Review & Podcast @ Ascully.com

Quote
“Yes, I am giving this movie an 8 out of 10. I’m not delusional nor have I suddenly been fitted with rose colored glasses. I can see movies for what they are and sometimes it’s nice to just sit back, have really low expectations shattered and have your snotty attitude conked in the noggin to remind you (me) that a cynical and brooding view of things isn’t edgy or cool, it’s just boring sometimes. It’s nice to have some fun, smile and laugh at some goofy stuff. Baby Mama is what it is, a comedy with those new fangled sensibilities about love and relationships, parenthood, being a grown up, living life your own way, etc. Let me explain why it deserves such a high score on my little grading scale….”

NEW CONTENT (Digital Lounge) - Maximum Risk HD Movie Review
QUOTE: “Over the last two decades, Jean Claude Van Damme has kicked, punched, stabbed, shot, and otherwise murdered and maimed thousands of villains. Yet, much like Blofeld to his James Bond, one man whom deserves to pay for his sins has so far eluded him: His agent.
It’s no secret that Van Damme has made more than his fair share of cinematic bombs, and unfortunately his rarely good or at least passable films will be lost to his rather dubious reputation. Maximum Risk certainly falls into the latter category, however the plot is a little more complicated than most (maybe arbitrarily so), so listen carefully!”

The Nightmare Before Christmas Collectors Edition Blu-Ray & DVD Review & Podcast @ Ascully.com

Quote
“Halloweentown, Christmastown, it’s right up my alley. I wish I had had this movie when I was a kid. It would have been one of those movies that inspired me to imagine all sorts of alternate realities. Just like those Christmas classics like Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to Town. I’ll throw Wizard of Oz in there even though it’s not stop frame animation, it was one of those things I watched over and over and over and could get lost in them all so completely…”

Nim’s Island DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote
“Nim’s Island is a fantastic tale about Nim (Abigail Breslin), a young girl who lives with her father on a remote island. Nim’s mother is no longer in the picture, and Nim’s father is a research scientist who has carted off his little girl to a secluded island where they enjoy life as it comes. They have a beautiful house that somehow has the internet and electricity, but other than that they are living the modern day Robinson Crusoe adventure..”

EW CONTENT (Digital Lounge) - In The Line Of Fire HD Movie Review
QUOTE: “In The Line Of Fire, produced in 1993 marked the last film that Clint Eastwood would star in, before getting behind the camera. The film was a critical and financial success, garnering three Oscar nominations and propelled Director Wolfgang Petersen into the big league. Of note is the early technical feat of computer graphics, compositing newly filmed footage into vintage material, which was done for a massive $4 million. The same effects could be done today on a home computer, with relatively basic software.
For a film getting on in years, it looks as good as would be expected. Skin tones are perfect and colours are rendered well. There is a fair amount of detail to the image, but it is somewhat inconsistent. Some shots come off looking a little murky and ill defined when compared to others. Thankfully, there is little in the way of film artifacts on the print, and it’s fairly stable with little telecine wobble.”

Shine A Light DVD & Blu-Ray Disc Review @ Ascully.com

Quote
“I truly enjoyed seeing Shine a Light as I feel that it displays the Rolling Stones as the real deal. This is a band that has endured for years, and they are still relevant and they can still put on a riveting live performance. Coupled with the fact that the presentation on this DVD is nearly perfect, Shine a Light is an amazing time capsule of one of the most important rock and roll bands ever. They may be old, but the Rolling Stones are definitely still able to play….”

The Mummy/The Mummy Returns Blu-Ray Disc Review & Podcast @ Ascully.com

Quote
“A true love story. That’s what The Mummy and The Mummy Returns are at heart. You could say there is some action, some adventure, mummies, iffy Egyptian mythology, cinematic interpretation of world history, and lots of cheeky one-liners all tossed in there too, just for fun. I didn’t really like these movies the first time I watched them. I wasn’t looking forward to seeing them again, hey, I’m being honest. This time I had more fun and discovered that the love story between the lead characters is the of the heart whole shebang!”

NEW CONTENT (Digital Lounge) - Guide to Buying Blu-rays from Overseas
QUOTE: “Here at TweakTown I often get questions about whether or not Blu-ray ‘X’ will work in an Australian or American Blu-ray player; so I thought it would be a good time to write a guide about Blu-ray importing. Let’s begin!
Similar to DVD region coding, where the world is split up into six geographic regions, Blu-ray is split into three geographic regions. Fortunately, unlike DVD, the splitting of Blu-ray regions are far more sensible.”

Riding a wave a fan expectations and anticipation as well as surrounding by the tragic death of Heath Ledger, the latest installment in Writer/Director Christopher Nolans Batman Series, The Dark Knight, has arrived. Christian Bale once again stars in the dual role of troubled billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne and the masked avenger Batman, as he attempts to bring order to Gotham City.
The film picks up shortly after the events of Batman Begins and finds Bruce and his trusty sidekick Alfred (Michael Caine), splitting their time between a lofty penthouse and a secret lair while Wayne Manor is being rebuilt. The streets of Gotham have become safer as thanks to Batman many of the bad elements of the city have either been arrested or driven off.

Stop Loss DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote
“Stop Loss is a story about several young men who have served our country in Iraq, as they deal with not only the violence and uncertainty of war, but also the lingering effects that their experiences have on their psyches. It is as much about the problems that they dealt with in the war zone as it is the problems that they must deal with at home….”

Hollywood is often littered with decisions that in hindsight seem to be utterly insane. For all of the big budgeted films that go on to do huge business, there are films such as Waterworld, Howard The Duck, Hudson Hawk, and countless others that make you scratch your head and wonder who thought they were worth the investment of millions of dollars that were needed to bring them to the big screen.
One such decision that will undoubtedly look bad with the passage of time, was the decision for Columbia not to continue the Hellboy film series and allow it to walk away to find a home elsewhere.

The Jungle Book 2 Special Edition DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote
”
The Jungle Book 2 feels like a redo of the original film, which is really not that bad of an idea. While the voice acting is obviously different (it has been 36 years since the original Jungle Book was released) it still works. John Goodman is a great Baloo, and Haley Joel Osment is good as Mowgli. The songs are catchy, just like the original, and the spirit of the movie is identical to the original…..”

BEIJING, July 11 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ — With Toshiba suspending the production of HD-DVD video disc players (http://www.tootoo.com/buy- DVD_video_disc_players/ ), only Blu-ray Disc remains in the standard 1920¡Á1080 format and became dominant in the disc player and video disc market. However, due to the lack of Blu-ray Disc sources in China’s market, Blu-ray Disc players sold by Sony, Panasonic, and Pioneer attract few buyers in the China market.
This hurdle will soon be cleared. Tootoo.com (http://www.tootoo.com/ ) learned from the Blu-ray Disc Association Press Conference that Shanghai Epic Music Entertainment Company Ltd. will start producing Blu-ray Discs in China’s mainland. The company’s workshop extension project in Shanghai is almost completed. The modified workshop will have 13,000 square meters, and Blu-ray Disc production will commnece in about December this year

NEW CONTENT (Digital Lounge) - National Treasure HD Movie Review
QUOTE: “The best way I can describe ‘National Treasure’ is to imagine The Da Vinci Code, change that European setting for the United States, lessen the grisly murders and make it family friendly. In fact, I am willing to bet that was the pitch to the studio.
Essentially the storyline goes like this: Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicholas Cage) is a wannabe archaeologist looking for treasure left by the U.S. founding fathers. Unfortunately for him, the last necessary clue is so close, yet so far, being inscribed on the bottom of the declaration of independence.”
