SilverStone Raven RVM01B Mouse @ Phoronix

September 30th, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: SilverStone Raven RVM01B Mouse @ Phoronix
Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12893
Summary: “While SilverStone Technology has long been known for their high-end (and very expensive) computer cases such as the Sugo and Temjin series, as of late they’ve begun manufacturing other computer peripherals while driving new and interesting innovations into these conventional products. Earlier this month we looked at the SilverStone Treasure TS01, which was a 2.5" SATA drive enclosure, but separating it from the other enclosure devices on the market, this one would encrypt the drive and secure it using two RFID keys. If these small keys were not exposed to the TS01, the drive enclosure would not work. Another interesting creation from SilverStone Technology is the Raven RVM01B. This here is SilverStone’s first computer mouse and we are looking at it today.”

Madden NFL 09 Strategy Guide @ OCModShop

September 17th, 2008 by Kristofer

The main thing to fix is how you let the CPU quarterback throw off his back foot on any play. I’m sure Madden himself would say, “Now he should have never thrown that ball off his back foot, boom!”

Is it too much to ask for players to walk into a game with both teams on an equal field and the players decide the game, rather than sliders, scripting, and animations? I have been a loyal fan for many years, but other than crazy games against other gamers, I’m starting to understand why many people have long lost faith in the Madden franchise for not offering enough innovation. Madden 09 is just NCAA 09 in new packaging and some glitter to make it look better. For next year, please try to make a game that better reflects the NFL.

What is Wrong with Girl Gaming @ OCModShop

September 13th, 2008 by Kristofer

Girl Gaming is a joke.

Im not against girls in video games. I actually have sat and encouraged it. Every girl I ever date I am trying to make into a gamer, and I know, just like these girls that are spreading the movement that if you just give them a chance, video games are a great recreation. Having the opposite sex involved in a Halo tournament is wonderfulespecially if they kick my ass. But lets get something straight, I get my ass kicked by women just as I do by men. There is no difference.

OCZ Dominatrix Gaming Mouse

September 9th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Miscellanous) - OCZ Dominatrix Gaming Mouse

QUOTE: “Today we have the new OCZ Dominatrix on the slab, ready for a bit of rough and tumble. Many of our loyal readers will have an un-nerving sense of déjà vu as this mouse looks pretty much identical to the Cybersnipa I reviewed not too long ago. Well, in truth they appear to be the same mouse chassis with a few tweaks to the aesthetics.

Now we will find out just how different they are in the details. The OCZ edition has opted for the blue rubberised grip which is a solid choice as I like the rubber on this grip; it’s a soft and silky silicon feel but it doesn’t leave your hand sweating and struggling for grip.”

Razer Lachesis 4000DPI Mouse @ Phoronix

September 8th, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: Razer Lachesis 4000DPI Mouse @ Phoronix
Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12815
Summary: “Over the years of Razer launching new products such as the Copperhead, Barracuda HP-1, and Tarantula, we have been completely overtaken by their incredibly well-designed products — primarily their high-end gaming mice — and the bar they continue to raise with each new iteration of products they introduce. The Razer Copperhead was one of their best mice to have been introduced and it contained a laser sensor with 2000 DPI capabilities, but their newest mouse is the Lachesis and it uses a 4000DPI 3G laser sensor. However, with Razer having yet to provide any drivers or customization software for the advanced capabilities of this mouse on Linux, is the Razer Lachesis worth its expensive price tag?”

We Review and Grade PAX 2008 @ OCModShop

September 7th, 2008 by Kristofer

I went to E3errrr PAX. To be honest, the show has come a long ways in five years from when it was in that insanely small venue from the first two years. I played a lot of games, talked to a lot of people, and ate a lot of Cliff Bars. Overall, my impression on the show itself was mixed. Its obvious the people at Penny-Arcade are gods now, and they put everything they had into it. In execution though, there was so much that could have been done that was simply out of Gabe and Tychos hands.

Stalker Clear Sky PC-Game Review on Technic3D

September 7th, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: Stalker Clear Sky PC-Game Review on Technic3D

Link: http://www.technic3d.com/article-732,1-stalker-clear-sky-aus-der-zone-in-die-zone.htm

Quote: “The Stalker Clear Sky PC Game from DeepSilver arrived Technic3D. Go back one year from the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. In Clear Sky, a group of stalkers has reached the heart of the Zone - Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. An immense blowout of anomalous energy changes the Zone. There are no more reliable and relatively safe roads. Entire levels vanish in the outbursts of anomalies. Stalkers and even expeditions die or end up sealed on the lost territories. New areas, which remained unknown since the time of the Zone emergence, appear on the Zone map. Changes of the Zone map known to stalkers shake the fragile balance of forces in the Zone. Among the groupings, there flare up hostilities for the new territories, artifact fields and spheres of influence. Everyone is now out for himself. You are a mercenary who appeared at the edge of the opposition between stalker factions, Strelok and the Zone itself. You play the key role in the events that led to creation of the Zone up to the point from which the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game begins. Better with DirectX10? See you in the following Review.”

OS X Reality Article: Should Myst be ported to the iPhone?

September 7th, 2008 by Kristofer

This article explains why the iPhone port of Myst will be successful in areas where other portable consoles have failed.

Title:
Myst already available for PSP and DS, why bother with the iPhone port?

Link:
http://osxreality.com/2008/08/24/myst-already-available-for-psp-and-ds-why-bother-with-the-iphone-port/

Quote:
“Since its initial release Myst has been ported to multiple platforms, such as Windows, PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS. Although the game enjoyed great success on PC, scoring a respectable 90% on Game Rankings, the same can’t be said of the handheld ports, scoring 56%/53% on the PSP/DS respectively, which raises the question, where did the PSP/DS go wrong, and will the iPhone be doomed to the same fate?”

NZXT Avatar Gaming Mouse

September 5th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Miscellaneous) - NZXT Avatar Gaming Mouse

QUOTE: “On the slab today we have the monolithic looking NZXT Avatar mouse in all its matt-black glory. Boasting a 2600 DPI optical sensor, fully customisable interface and an ambidextrous design, it certainly aims to please all.

This is new territory for NZXT, having never released a mouse before. It will be interesting to see how it stacks up with the plethora of clickers on the market. Sitting on my desk is this little black box, with no markings aside from an embossed “NZXT” in one corner; reminds me of a certain movie with monkeys and bones…”

ATI HD4870X2 Crysis AA vs DX9/DX10 Performance

August 13th, 2008 by Kristofer

We did some data mining through the massive amount of test data that was put online yesterday; it seems the HD4870X2 works really wonderful with Crysis when AA is enabled, if you are running under Vista. The increased level of detail with 4xAA doesn’t really reduce performance all that much. While the GTX 280 takes a serious performance hit. Secondly is the fact that the HD4870X2 holds up better going from Windows XP to Windows Vista, and runs the game faster than the GTX 280 when “Very High” detail is used. While under XP with “High” the both are basically tied.

Feel free to sample the charts from our site; as the credit goes to the original testers!
