News - Evercool Royal Notebook Cooling Pad at Overclockers Online

October 6th, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: Evercool Royal Notebook Cooling Pad at Overclockers Online
Link: http://www.overclockersonline.net/?page=articles&num=2041
Quote: Though the tests were inconclusive, I really like laptop coolers
in general and the Evercool Royal is no exception. It is well-designed
and the “royal” theme is very attractive. The raised back is
ergonomically sound and is a feature my wrists welcome. Though its
effectiveness at cooling your laptop’s components is dubious, it does
make the surface cooler which equates to a more comfortable experience
if you use your laptop on your lap.

Thermaltake RamOrb Memory Cooler

September 27th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Casing & Cooling) - Thermaltake RamOrb Memory Cooler

QUOTE: “Times have certainly changed and even budget memory comes with a heatsink these days. Memory now runs much warmer than the ambient air surrounding it and companies are spending a great deal of time and effort to cool their products. While early coolers were held in place with what amounted to double sided tape from 3M and the coolers were more for appearance than performance, a few companies have invested in thermal transfer material to effectively transfer heat away from the RAM and pass it to the cooler.

Thermaltake is now taking the idea of the cooling RAM to a new level and incorporating one of their most popular product lines. The new Thermaltake RamOrb (PN: CL-R0029) is now shipping to retail and e-tail locations and will be available in the coming weeks.”

With great cooling performance and wide online availability at a pricepoint of $26.00 US or less, the S1 is a superb value. Zaward Gyre ZCJ010 CPU Cooler

September 19th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Casing & Cooling) - Zaward Gyre ZCJ010 CPU Cooler

QUOTE: “Being new is much different than doing new. Zaward’s Gyre CPU cooler is new in action. The cooler features HDT, but that is hardly anything fresh at this point. But what is innovative is the design of the cooler, how it operates and the extent of engineering that went into the fan.

By the time we finish this article the extent of engineering that went into the Gyre will be revealed, but it is important to remember that going against the mainstream doesn’t always net better results in performance. We will have to dig deeper to see if that is the case here.”

NZXT Cryo LX Notebook Cooler Review

September 19th, 2008 by Kristofer

I4U NEWS published a review of the NZXT Cryo LX Notebook Cooler.

Quote from the review:
“Cooling a notebook computer can be a pain, especially if you use a large gaming machine that produces lots of heat. NZXT has a notebook stand called the Cryo LX that is up to the task.
Many notebooks run much hotter than notebook users would prefer. It can also literally be a pain in the neck to work on a notebook for extended periods thanks to having to look down at the screen. NZXT has a product called the Cryo LX that can pull double duty by cooling the notebook and raising the screen to more comfortable levels.”

Thermaltake Ramorb Review @ Rbmods

September 12th, 2008 by Kristofer

Thermaltake Ramorb Review:

Link: http://www.rbmods.com/Articles/Thermaltake/Ramorb/1.php

Quote: With todays fast ram sticks the heat issue is what stops overclockers from going forward. Because of this we have seen a few manufacturers that made new heatsinks for their ram sticks. Thermaltake has another solution on the market, it’s actually a ram cooler with a fan on it. Now I have seen Thermaltake make products like this in the past but they have never really hit the market so I am quite curious to see if this can actually perform so lets get this show on the road.

More than 7 years ago, the first fan controller review was published on the ocinside.de hardware portal.
When you compare the older Digital Doc 5 fan controller with the current Aerocool Modern-V,
it is easy to see one big difference, because especially the design of the new LCD panel is much more beautiful.
Let us see if the operation, technology and price of the Aerocool Modern-V fan controller is also recommendable.

September 6th, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: NZXT Sentry LX Review at Overclockers Online
Link: http://www.overclockersonline.net/?page=articles&num=1971
Quote: In terms of function, the NZXT Sentry LX is one of the best fan
controllers I’ve ever used. It allows unparalleled control with its ability
to support 5 fans and monitor 5 temperatures. I was also very pleased with
the ease of use. Even a beginner will find that setting up and using the
Sentry LX is very intuitive. Also, the black brushed aluminum finish along
with the blue lighting scheme is very stylish and should complement most
cases.

Rosewill RCX-V100 VGA Cooler Review @ OCIA.net

August 30th, 2008 by Kristofer

OCIA.net has posted their review of the Rosewill RCX-V100 VGA Cooler.  Below is a direct quote from the review:
Rosewill is the brand-name associated with the reseller Newegg.com. Like Costco’s Kirkland, Newegg uses Rosewill to sell competition products at cheaper prices than the big names that they already sell because they don’t have to play the middle man of reselling, they are selling factory direct. Recently, Rosewill has put together their latest aftermarket GPU cooler, the RCX-V100, which we have for review today. Because companies like Rosewill sell a wide variety of products, they are not always associated with the best of quality. Especially in a market like cooling, where companies have become extremely specialized, many people won’t trust a generic name like Rosewill. Can it stand up to the test, though? We’ll find out.

Thermaltake DuOrb CPU Cooler @ TechwareLabs

August 22nd, 2008 by Kristofer

TechwareLabs has published a review on the Thermaltake DuOrb CPU Cooler. Here’s a clip from the review:

Quote: Bigger is better right? Then it follows that two fans are better than one in which case the DuOrb not only has two but adds heatpipes and enough bling to satisfy even the most aggressive case modder. We stuck the DuOrb into our test rig for some overclocking and testing. Does the DuOrb cool as good as it looks?

NZXT Sentry LX Fan Controller Review

August 14th, 2008 by Kristofer

Not much has changed in how we keep our computers cool, we use fans, yes I know there are other solutions but the most common is the typical fan to pull air fresh cool air into our cases and exhaust the hot air out. For the most part this system works well, but there are always ways of improving the system if we look hard enough, one way is a fan controller, this not only controls the speeds of the fans but can also help quiet a loud fan.

Up on the review block today we’ve got the Sentry LX Aluminum Dual Bay Fan Controller from NZXT and it’s very well made, easy to install and even easier to use. The Sentry LX is a stylish black colored aluminum with diamond cut accents so it will fit in nicely with most any chassis.

So continue on to learn more about the Sentry LKX and see why this is the fan controller for you…

Forcetake Mars CL-R1000 Ram Cooler Review @ HardwareXL

August 13th, 2008 by Kristofer

QUOTE:  “A while back we had the opportunity to review some chipset coolers from forcetake (the TJS-0005 and TJS-0006) which were pretty innovative at the time, nowadays more and more components need better cooling. Take memory for example, when overclocking they can get pretty heated. Standard heatsinks aren’t always able to direct the heat away from the memory modules. Forcetake has the perfect answer, the Mars CL-R1000 ram cooler. It’s compatible with DDR,DDR2 and even DDR3.

New SILENT/ SILENT TC/ SILENT PWM Case fan series from GELID Solutions

August 8th, 2008 by Kristofer

PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release
Launch of “ Silent / TC / PWM ” Case Fan
Superior Silent Case Fan Series for Silent Enthusiasts
HONG KONG, 8 August, 2008

Thermal Solutions specialist GELID Solutions announces the launch of their superior Silent case fan
series Silent / TC / PWM in 3 different sizes (80mm, 92mm and 120mm).

The Silent series is designed for silent enthusiasts. GELID Silent case fans provide additional airflow
without increasing noise levels and at affordable prices. Precisely balanced fan blades and long life
Hydro Dynamic bearing guarantee ultra low noise. To add to the silence fan mounts replace
traditional screws and are made of high quality, temperature resistant, extra long lasting rubber and
stop vibrations from the fan motor from travelling into your PC case.

For discerning Silent enthusiasts the Silent TC fans provide additional airflow by changing the fan
speed according to your actual temperature needs, giving you no more noise than absolutely
necessary and maximum cooling when needed. A superior IC embedded in the fan’s PCB allows
smart variable fan speeds.

Designed for advanced users the Silent PWM fans provide additional airflow by using Pulse Width
Modulation (PWM) to automatically adjust fan speed according to the CPU temperature. An intelligent
IC had been integrated into the fan’s PCB to exploit your mainboard’s BIOS software. This technology
is more efficient and convenient than using an external fan controller to adjust the voltage.

“We have been able to make significant improvements in the way which the fan speed is controlled for
both the PWM and Temperature Control versions” said VC TRAN co-founder and Marketing Director
of GELID Solutions Ltd.

MSRP

GELID Silent 8 / PWM / TC
USD: 4.15 / 7.50 / 7.80

Rosewill RCX-Z4 CPU Heatsink @ OCModShop

August 7th, 2008 by Kristofer

There I was. Standing there in nothing but my underwear. She comes in with a roll of bubble wrap and a box set of the new season of Scrubs. This has nothing to do with this review, I am just really cool like that and my fantasies are awesome.

Speaking of cool. It’s time for yet another review on the long…. long line of heatsink/fan combos that are gracing the store shelves these days. Today’s victim, er, subject is the Rosewill RCX-Z4. Now, I know what you’re all thinking. Who the hell is Rosewill and why should we care? The answer to both of those questions is this; I don’t know. Before I received my latest shipment of reviewee’s I had never heard of Rosewill. All I know is that they make one strange looking heatsink that in my opinion doesn’t look like it would do much at all. But my opinion only matters at the end of reviews and in horseshoes.

Xigmatek SD964 HDT CPU Cooler Review

August 4th, 2008 by Kristofer

Keep those CPUs cool, that’s the main thing most people worry about with their computers, and for the most part the stock coolers do a decent job, but there are those of use that desire to keep our CPUs running cooler than the stock solution can provide. We all know that the cooler the CPU is the longer it will last, at least theoretically, and of course if the CPU is cooler there is always room for a bit of overclocking as well to eek out a bit more performance.

Up on the review block today I’ve got one from Xigmatek, it’s the SD964 HDT CPU cooler, not a real fancy name, but then again what’s in a name right? It really doesn’t matter what it’s called as long as it performs! The SD964 is a small heatpipe style CPU cooler, at least in comparison to others on the market today, but it is by no means small in terms of performance. The SD964 dominates over most others out there in our tests on both C2D and C2Q CPUs…

Zalman CNPS9300AT CPU Cooler Review @ OCIA.net

August 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

OCIA.net has posted their review of the Zalman CNPS9300AT CPU Cooler.  Below is a direct quote from the review:
Like most of their recent coolers, the Zalman CNPS9300AT uses a circular heatsink design, and just like previous 9000-series coolers the CNPS9300 uses an upright orientation with heatpipes connecting it to the base. CNPS stands for Computer Noise Prevention System, and Zalman uses this designation on all products designed for noiseless operation. Can an air cooler designed to be “noiseless” really provide enough cooling for modern processors?
