OMG News! 11/23/09

Posted on the November 23rd, 2009 under Everything and Anything, Product Reviews by JeffS

I haven’t had my coffee yet for the day – I actually questioned myself on whether or not it was 2009 when typing that date.  I’m still not convinced…

Anywho – not a lot of news over the past two days, but here’s what we’ve got.  Nothing terribly exciting, but read on.

XFX GeForce GT 240 Video card Review

It has been a bit of a drought for NVIDIA video cards since the launch of the GeForce GTX295 and GTX285 dual and single GPU cards. Their competition has released the Radeon HD 5970, 5870, 5850, 5770 and 5750 that have redefined the performance and enthusiast markets, but NVIDIA has stayed put waiting to unleash their next generation GF100 series on the market. But that will have to wait for another day as NVIDIA is not ready with their Fermi architecture for the consumer market with only some samples out to game developers and internally at NVIDIA.

Whether you just need a computer for surfing the web or if you are on a quest to construct the ultimate gaming machine, it all begins with the case. NZXT has recently released a mid-tower case for all arenas: the Gamma. This extraordinarily light case is packed with features normally seen only in high-end (and high-priced) gaming cases, and it brings it all to the table for only $49.99. ASUS Radeon EAH5850

I hate to admit it, but despite the fact that AMD launched its ATI Radeon HD 5000 series in late September, which included the HD 5870 and HD 5850, we haven’t had a review of the latter card up to this point. Thanks to our friends at ASUS, we received their version of the reference card a couple of weeks ago, and had a blast putting it through its paces. It never ceases to impress me just how much value can be found in GPUs today, and the HD 5850 is no exception.

With our new P55 testbed setup, it’s time to see what’s going on in this market and what kind of performance we can expect out of the kits that are currently available. There’s so many advantages to dual channel kits of memory; for starters, there’s the price. With one less module you’re able to save a couple of dollars straight away.

Lian Li PC-B70

A while back I took a look at a case from LanCool called the K58. LanCool is a Lian Li company that gives you Lian Li quality on a budget. Today I have the chance to take a look at Lian Li’s new PC-B70 case. This is my first experience with an all aluminum case; I’m excited to take a closer look.

Seagate Barracuda 2TB Sata 3 (Sata 6Gb/s) (ST32000641AS CC11)

The long awaited Sata 3 interface is finally here. The new interface promises to offer twice the bandwidth of the older Sata 2 interface. Currently hard drives don’t challenge the Sata 2 bandwidth unless your talking Raid arrays. More than likely SSD Raid arrays. Seagate estimates that within 2 – 3 years we will need the additional bandwidth that Sata 3 offers but the fledgling technology is here now.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City Xbox 360 Review

When Microsoft and Rockstar announced a joint partnership to have exclusive DLC content, the internet basically exploded. The most anticipated game in many years was going platform exclusive, to a degree. And considering that platform was not Playstation, the platform many people see as the one which built the GTA franchise, it was hard for some people to swallow.
