Review Snipit:
“If you have ever attempted to format a hard drive, work with its partitions, create or move partitions, change partitions between FAT and NTFS or explore your drive’s structure, you have probably come across some difficulty. The tools built into operating systems don’t give you full accessibility over your drives, and having a handy piece of software to help you can be a godsend. ”

” Today for review I have the Pico p1 Micro Projector from AAXA technologies. This thing is small, not much larger than a smartphone, it will fit in the palm of your hand. The Pico P1 has a few great features like a built-in media player, dual power, long battery life, small and portable of course and it can also connect to devices like ipods, iPhones, cameras and most anything with an RCA style audio/video output. Those features don’t mean much though is the picture quality isn’t good, so continue on to learn more about the Pico P1…”

Today, we will be testing that theory when we examine a monitor that Geeks.com sent us: the Soyo 24” Pearl LCD monitor. While other computer monitors out there are larger and offer better specifications, does this monitor provide a decent picture at a reasonable price? Read on to find out.

Dell 24-inch S2409W Monitor Review

Date: 04-28-2009 By Vlad Mihaiescu

Movies, games and even 2-D applications perform and look superbly on this monitor. I did not notice any glitches, flickers or distorted images. But besides the image looking sharp and great I did notice another difference with the S2409W Dell monitor. Personally, I associate this difference with the size difference, but I did notice that my eyes are not as tired and as dry at the end of the day, and maybe it is just a coincidence, but since I got this monitor I do not remember having a single headache (I’ve only had it for 2 weeks though). So far I’m very satisfied with this monitor.

NEW CONTENT (Storage) – Vizo Ares II Dual 2.5-inch SATA Drive Adapter

QUOTE: “You may have noticed that nearly all of the exciting hard drives in the last year have been 2.5 inch drives. The 2.5 inch standard has long dominated the notebook market and is quickly starting to take over the enterprise server market. When Western Digital released the VelociRaptor analysts took notice as it marked the 2.5″ invasion into desktop systems. Here we are a year later and solid state drives are all the rage. I know several enthusiasts that are using SSDs in their full towers, most of them with multiple drives in either RAID 0 or RAID 5.

Other than rack mounted servers I have yet to see a desktop system come with an efficient 2.5″ mounting system for these drives. Several companies make adapters but most were designed to fit a floppy disk drive into a 5.25″ CDROM bay. Vizo has noticed this same issue and decided to do something about it.”

EVGA GeForce GTS 250 Video Card Review motherboards.org

Author: Doc Overclock Date: 04-28-2009

EVGA offers the best support on the planet for most of their cards. A 2-year warranty may not seem like much but the fact remains that few people have video cards longer than 2 years, especially for those that want the higher end cards and need a hold me over card until the next generation of cards are released or they can afford a new card with the features and performance that the GTS 250 would offer. This card really blew me away in terms of overclocking as I was able to overclock the card to 958MHz stably without visual artifacts. The Step-Up program is a nice touch especially if NVIDIA releases a new card between now and 90 days from now or if you want to upgrade to a GTX275/285. This card is online for a price of $149.99 currently from Newegg and it performs pretty well in standard testing and game play. Its overclocking abilities are what make this card stand apart from its peers as it excels in that arena, earning it an Editor’s Choice product.

TITLE: In Win X-Fighter @ LanOC Reviews

DESCRIPTION: If you were to compare the PC case market to motorcycles In Win would be similar to Orange County Choppers. Each case they make is designed around a central theme. In the past we have seen cases designed after the B2 Bomber and race cars. Today I will be looking at the X-Fighter, I’m sure you can guess what the theme of this case is all about. I’m going to run the case through its paces to see if it would be a good fit for today’s high end gaming PC’s.

We have been talking about NVIDIA’s Ion since late last year when news first broke of the ultra small form factor platform. At the time, NVIDIA’s tiny Atom-powered prototype system wasn’t even called Ion yet, but images of the miniscule motherboard that would eventually be used in the reference platform had already surfaced and the community was buzzing with interest. One of the major concerns with most netbooks and nettops was their relatively weak integrated graphics solutions, and Ion would potentially address that concern.

Around the time when Ion was first announced, there was some scuttlebutt that Intel “disapproved” of the platform and that the company wouldn’t sell OEMs Atom processors separately, without pairing them to an accompanying Intel chipset. Those rumors were soon squashed, however, because Intel does in fact sell Atom processors independent of a chipset. Although, we think it’s still pretty safe to say Intel isn’t exactly thrilled with Ion’s existence.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Ion though, the platform is moving closer to public availability. We took a look at NVIDIA’s Ion reference system a couple of months back and in our conclusion stated that “we want one – preferably sooner than later”. Well, the wait is almost over as the first publicly announced Ion design win has landed in the HotHardware labs, Acer’s slick Aspire Revo…

Data, data everywhere.  I find myself needing to transfer data at some point nearly every day.  The flash memory drive has made that process so much easier and faster (Any of my readers remember using five inch floppies?).  It seems that every company is trying to produce some form of one.  So how do you make your drive stand out?  I see three options: Make it smaller, faster, or stylized.  With the Pico C we showed you how small the drives can be.  I personally don’t like most of the “style” drives.  Honestly, who needs a flash drive that looks like Hello Kitty?  Today we are going to take a look at OCZ’s “Performance” series, the OCZ Rally2.

I don’t care what anyone says about them, I like Microsoft, and for the most part they release quality products (*cough* Windows ME *cough*).  Now I remember back when I got my Sidewinder Gamepad 1.0, and later having a Sidewinder 3D Pro Joystick.  While they were not the top ones out there, both devices were sturdy and performed their duties well.  Needless to say I was disappointed when the Sidewinder line was discontinued in 2003.  It was stated to be from a lack of sales.  In 2007 the brand was shocked back to life with the Sidewinder Mouse, designed exclusively for gaming.  This was replaced by the X5, and here recently the X8 was released with bluetrack and wireless technologies.  All of these items were intended to build on the franchise that early gamers wanted to build.  In late 2008, Microsoft decided it was time to give the mice a new companion; and born was the X6 Keyboard.  Let’s take a look at this new piece of the legacy.

ASUS EAH4770 HTDI/512MD5/A Radeon HD 4770 Videocard Review

“AMD is making a new addition to its midrange graphics card lineup today with the introduction of the Radeon HD 4770 videocard, based on the companies first 40nm GPU, the RV740. The Radeon HD 4770 strikes a balance between performance and price, coming just under the lucrative $100 mark and slotting in nicely in terms of performance between existing Radeon 4670 and 4850 videocards. NEW CONTENT (Video Cards) – GIGABYTE HD 4770 512MB GDDR5 Graphics Card

QUOTE: “The frequency of graphics card releases now compared to two years ago is just jaw dropping. There used to be three models; a low, mid and high-end model. And while we still have that base structure today, there are so many models that fit into each category. These days we have high mid range cards and low high end cards amongst the main three categories; the reason for this is because of the amount of power these cards offer.

The latest card to hit the market is the HD 4770 which expands upon the HD 4700 series from ATI. The weird thing is that it’s a series that we haven’t heard about a whole lot leading up to its release, especially in the new model market. What we’ve seen from ATI lately are models in the HD 4800 series, HD 4890, HD 4870, HD 4850 and more.”

Wheelman – 360 Review

Date: 04-27-2009 By Vlad Mihaiescu

The sound is good, the graphics are good the gameplay makes sense and the controls are easy to learn, but despite all that I find myself wanting to go play more of The Godfather II or to just go on rampages in GTA IV. For some reason this game was not able to bond with me the way that other games do and they even have Romanians in it (I was born in Romania). Even with the Romanian factor (which I find funny altogether – Romanian organized crime) I still don’t see myself keeping this game. It is going to make a nice trade-in. On the other hand, I think that Wheelman would make a perfect rental; It is just long enough to beat in the few days that you have a rental out. Wheelman is a lot of fun, its just that with today’s economy it is not worth 60 dollars worth of fun.

ATI Radeon HD 4770 review: The $100 Killer GPU?

http://www.techspot.com/review/163-radeon-hd-4770/

Hot on the heels of last month’s Radeon HD 4890 release which set a new performance record for ATI as their fastest single GPU yet, the company has another new graphics card for us today, this time targeting the sub-$100 market.

The new Radeon HD 4770 is the world’s first 40nm graphics processing unit, and although it’s not designed to set any speed records like the flagship 4890, the 4770 aims to deliver the best possible value in a neat cost-effective package.

It has become common practice for both ATI and Nvidia to make their initial migration to a new design process using a mid-range or even low-end GPU, allowing time for refinement before they push it to high-performance parts. That said, the Radeon HD 4770 is far from a simple affair as the GPU has a transistor count of 826 million, or just 14% less than the Radeon HD 4890, ATI’s most complex GPU yet.

TITLE: ATI Radeon HD 4770 RV740 DDR5 Video Card @ Benchmark Reviews

DESCRIPTION: Sometimes an industry first doesn’t mean a new champion is born. The ATI Radeon HD 4770 introduces the 40nm RV740 GPU paired to 512MB of DDR5 video frame buffer memory, and a double-height cooler allows the ATI B743 model video card to operate at 750MHz. Initially expected to sell at the $100 mark, could this be the mainstream graphics accelerator for the masses? NEW CONTENT (Cases, Cooling and PSU) – Scythe Mugen 2 CPU Cooler

QUOTE: “Bling, bright LED lights, unique fin designs, exotic metal plating and loud, high CFM fans. What do all these things have in common? They are common features that attract the masses into buying a certain cooler over another, purely based on looks alone. Every once in a while a manufacturer takes a step back and tries to improve on a more basic design and add a few extra features that aren’t found on most CPU coolers on the market; taking the concept of a simple fin shape, basic use of common metals and from what I see on the internet, from previous users, really quiet fans as well. The company in question of taking this exact approach is Scythe.

Today I have the pleasure of taking a look at the Mugen 2 CPU cooler from Scythe. Never personally purchasing any of Scythe’s products previous to this review, I am sort of in the dark for firsthand knowledge of what their reputation is based on. What I have read in forums and seen in screenshots will be tested to our standards. Then we can see what all this “hype” is surrounding the Mugen 2 and hopefully shed some light for you and myself along the way.”

AMD is launching yet another new ATI Radeon graphics card today. And in light of the current worldwide economic conditions, along with the performance and power consumption data we present in the article, we suspect it’s going to be a welcomed addition to the company’s already potent graphics card line-up.

You see, the brand new Radeon HD 4770 is AMD’s first mainstream desktop GPU manufactured using a 40m process, and as such, it is more economical for the company to produce (due to its smaller die size) and it consumes little power relative to the current crop of products manufactured at 55nm. The Radeon HD 4770′s main features don’t stray far from the other members of the Radeon HD 4000 family, but its specifications are somewhat different due to the use of the new GPU, which was formerly codenamed RV740. Check it out…

Today AMD released the world’s first GPU that is produced in a 40 nm process. The HD 4770 is aggressively priced around ~$100 and offers great performance for your hard earned dollars. In our testing realized out that the card performs almost on par with the HD 4850. With the amazing 30%+ memory overclock we got on our sample, the HD 4850 will be surpassed easily.

Review link: http://www.virtual-hideout.net/reviews/Supermicro_SuperServer_5035L-IB/index.shtml

Quote: ““Server” and “Desktop” are words that are used all the time, a lot of times I think that not everyone really understands what they really mean. In fact there is no standard that makes every server different from every desktop. There is nothing stopping the average user from using Supermicro’s SuperServer 5035L-IB as an everyday “Desktop” computer. It can do all the web surfing, email, word documents and spread sheets you could throw at it. When looking at the 5035 as a server, at least for a small/home business system, it makes even more sense. Dual networking makes using it as a router/firewall a breeze. Also having a web server connected to a database with no other online access is a very common security “Best practice”. Most small businesses and home offices will also not have a dedicated sever room, so noise levels end up being a much bigger deal, in this aspect it really excels.”

MSI N250GTS-2D1G OC GeForce GTS 250 Video Card Review

Author: Ben Sun Date: 04-24-2009

MSI has taken the GeForce GTS 250 card and clocked it higher than the reference design, which NVIDIA clocks their standard cards at. While performance is not much improved, a lot of it can be attributed to the fact that the higher clock is only a fraction higher than the reference card. The card Overclocks extremely well with almost 100MHz overclock attained using the cooler. The benefits of this card compared to the reference card are virtually silent operation (as the fan is very silent), low temperatures under operation and higher clock speeds. The card is available online for $154.99 and comes with COD WAW when purchased from a participating etailer who is currently running that promotion. This card does however have 1GB of memory and that does help in many games over its 512MB brethren making it a Hot Product for this price range.

NZXT Zero 2 Gaming Chassis Reviewed @ High Tech Reviews

Quote – We have reviewed a number of different cases from NZXT in the
past and have always found them to be well laid out, sturdy, and
offered above average air flow. Today we have the opportunity to
review one of their newest additions to their already large case
product line. The case we will be examining is the second offering of
the model Zero case, hence the name Zero 2.

Titel: OCZ Hydroflow HF-MK1 für Core i7 optimieren

Text:

NEW CONTENT (Video Cards) – TwinTech GeForce GTS 250 XT OC 1GB Graphics Card

QUOTE: “It’s been a bit few and far between seeing cards from TwinTech, but today we’ve got a new one that sits in with their XT series of overclocked cards. The particular model we’re looking at today is the GTS 250 XT OC 1GB. Since the GTS 250 is nothing more than a rebranded 9800 GTX+, companies have been able to attack the “new” model quickly and swiftly with modifications in regards to its cooling and clock speeds.

TwinTech in true XT fashion has chosen to mix it up in both the clock speed department and the cooling one, but before we see how the card performs we’ll quickly take the time to have a closer look at the cards package before checking out the card itself and the clock speeds it carries with it.”

In this review, we’ll be taking a look at the OCZ Blade Triple Channel DDR3-1600 6Gb Kit. Rated at DDR3-1600 or PC3-12800, these modules can run upto 800Mhz. They also feature a super low latency of 6-6-6-24, which as far as I’m aware, is one of the lowest we’ve come across for a triple channel kit. And as mentioned above, these modules are equipped with OCZ’s new proprietary designed Aluminum heatspreader … they do look good and should provide excellent heat dissipation.

Summary: Shortly after I completed my review of the Enermax Revolution 85+, the folks at Enermax asked me a simple question: would I like to have a look at a 1250W unit from a new line intended to make up for the absence of a Revolution 85+ 1250W model in the North American market?

Naturally, I said yes. They then sent me the 80 Plus Bronze certified Galaxy Evo 1250W. Come on in and read all about it.

TITLE: Thermalright AXP-140 @ LanOC Reviews

DESCRIPTION: Thermalright is the top dog in the heatsink world. Their TRUE heatsink is still outperforming most efforts from their competition long after it was released. When you are on top it’s sometimes hard to figure out where to go next. Apparently they saw room for growth in the market for HTPC heatsinks. Because of that I’m here today ready to test their newest heatsink the AXP-140. Similar in looks to the Noctua NH-C12P that we tested recently, it’s the perfect size for most HTPC’s and cases that have side fans that interfere with large heatsinks.

TITLE: Seagate ES.2 1Tb Hard drives @ LanOC Reviews

DESCRIPTION: When shopping for a hard drive, most people don’t consider anything more than the amount of space you’re going to get for the lowest price. I will admit I’ve been guilty of this in the past. Of course as with anything else, there is a lot more to consider if you are looking to get a fast and reliable hard drive for your high end rig. Seagate is well known in the business and personal hard drive market. We happened to come upon two of Seagate’s ES-2 1 terabyte hard drives. Being a business class hard drive I was curious to see what differentiates the ES-2 compared to the Barracuda line.

NEW CONTENT (Gaming) – MADWORLD Wii Review

QUOTE: “The Nintendo Wii is constantly derided by hardcore gamers for having lots of shovelware and basically going after a new market. There is no doubt that the success of the Wii will change the face of gaming forever and Sony and Microsoft will factor the Wii’s success into their next systems.

SEGA recently has been trying to fight the good fight for Nintendo and release some hardcore style games. MADWORLD has had a lot of hype since it was first announced along with a lot of controversy. Over the course of a few months in late 2007 and early-to-mid 2008, AMD unveiled their Spider platform, consisting of AMD-built desktop processors, chipsets, and graphics cards, and refreshed said platform with faster processors and graphics cards. Fast forward to today, and AMD is doing the same thing, but this time with the newer, more powerful Dragon platform. It’s like Déjà Vu all over again, as they say.

Even though some components have been available for much longer, the complete Dragon platform–consisting of Radeon HD 4000 series graphics, 7-series chipsets, and Phenom II processors–has been around since January of this year, when the Phenom II first arrived. Since the initial launch, AMD has updated the GPU portion of the platform with the Radeon HD 4890, i.e. RV790, and introduced mainstream socket AM3 processors. And today, AMD ups the ante yet again with the highest clocked quad-core CPU to be offered by the company to date, the 3.2GHz Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition.

We’ve got one of AMD’s new flagship desktop processors in house for a little benchmark action and have clocked it down to 3.0GHz as well to simulate the performance of the Phenom II X4 945, which is also arriving alongside the 955 BE. Read on for the full scoop…

Quote: When you’re looking at peripherals and in particular mice, the mouse pad often falls by the wayside – mouse pads are just freebies for companies to advertise on right? Wrong; the mouse surface is almost as important as the mouse itself and a good pad will be smooth, comfortable and allow the mouse to be very high precision – something that is essential for all gamers. So, spare a thought for the humble mouse pad and read this review to see if the QPAD CT Grin can stake a claim to being the perfect surface. The large areas, high precision coating and non-slip backing all make for great reading but can it excel in real world testing too? Let’s take a look.

NEW CONTENT (Video Cards) – ASUS GeForce GTS 250 Dark Knight Graphics Card

QUOTE: “The Dark Knight series of graphics cards have been out for a while now, but this is actually the first time we’ve had a look at any card that’s a part of the series. The particular model we’re looking at today is the GTS 250 which, while being nothing more than a rebranded 9800 GTX+, has gained popularity due to the aggressive pricing structure that NVIDIA has done on it.

While it might not be anything new technically, it hasn’t stopped companies from mixing it up with new coolers, overclocks and different bundles. There are two versions of the GTS 250 under the ASUS Dark Knight series; there’s the model we have today which carries with it the upgraded cooling system and stock clocks. And then there’s another model available which is also a part of the TOP series and offers an overclocked core and memory clock along with the same cooling design we see on the one we have here today.”

Title: The House of the Dead: Overkill Wii @ TestFreaks

Review Link: http://www.testfreaks.com/blog/review/the-house-of-the-dead-overkill-wii/

Review Snipit:
“Imagine if you will a game that combined House of the Dead with Grindhouse and Pulp Fiction, threw in a drop of Left4Dead and a pinch of Shaft, throw in some extra violence and blood, then throw in some more for good measure and you’d have House of the Dead: Overkill. HOTD: Overkill is a raunchy, bloody, over the top, zombie killing gore-fest that will have you coming back for more time and time again. This game is not for children, it’s barely for adults, at least those with a shred of decency in them, but that’s what makes it great. If you have a Wii, if you like to kill zombies, this game needs to be in your collection. *Fair warning before you continue, this review, at least the videos, might be considered NSFW for obscene language.* ”

Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H Review

Author: Ben Sun Date: 04-20-2009

In terms of features, the Gigabyte GA-MA790GP UD4H motherboard has it all. It fully supports the new Phenom II CPUs on the market on the AM2+ Socket including the Phenom II X4 940 and Phenom II X3 710 CPUs we have in-house. The need for two AMD platforms is necessitated by the fact that the AM2+ CPUs do not work on AM3 motherboards meaning that to show the best performance; we need to use the fastest AM2+ CPU, the 940. Gigabyte outshines the other motherboard using the AMD 790FX chipset I’ve tested in every benchmark. I give the Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H an Editor’s Choice only due to the fact that I’ve only tested two boards on the new platform and the somewhat lacking bundle. As to the integrated graphics, the 790GX is the fastest integrated graphics on the AMD side of things. No one, who is serious about gaming, however, would use the HD 3300 integrated graphics; they would use an add-on card.

The Godfather Part II – PC Review

Date: 04-20-2009 By Vlad Mihaiescu

Now, if you are not a big fan of the Mafia, you may find The Godfather II quite a bit redundant. The point of the game is to take over businesses from rival families in order to weaken them to the point of extermination. There’s a lot of back and forth battles over turf and after your 4th or 5th visit at the same business location might be a bit boring, since I really enjoy mobster movies and even documentaries, I don’t find this back and forth aspect of the game annoying. Also, keep in mind that this game is rated M (mature 17+) for Blood, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Nudity, Sexual Themes and Strong Language so if you find the things on the rating list offensive, you may want to stay away from this title because there is a plethora of all the above things. Also, if you’re getting this game just because you saw the multiplayer capabilities, let me tell you now that the multiplayer games are rather boring. This game really is about the single player storyline and about controlling organized crime.

NEW CONTENT (Cases, Cooling and PSU) – Thermaltake ISGC-300 CPU Cooler

QUOTE: “I get quite a few coolers to test that pass over my desk. Most of these coolers follow the basic tower design and heatpipes of various quantities and diameters that remove the heat either by directly touching the IHS of the CPU, or removing it from an aluminum or copper base. What soon follows after the design is to start looking at a sufficient cooling mechanism or a high CFM fan in most instances. We should all know by now that with high CFM fans brings with them an elevated noise level as well.

Thermaltake is one of the smaller percentages of manufacturers that are taking the jump to silent computing. They have developed a line of ISGC, or Inspiration of Silent Gaming Cooling CPU coolers. Thermaltake incorporates a new fan to cool this line-up of coolers, the Pure Silence ISGC Fan 12. This fan provides a decent amount of CFM and has some technology involved to keep the noise levels down to a whisper while in use. More on these fans will be discussed later in this review.”

TITLE: Thrustmaster Dual Trigger Gun NW @ LanOC Reviews

DESCRIPTION: Nintendo may have struck an untapped gold-mine with their latest console, but it seems to come at a high price for those of us who were once devoted and loyal fans.  The casual crowd is the company’s target this go around, much to the dismay of the rest of us.  So for a lot of people, the Wii sits as a very expensive white paperweight in their home.  I, for one, often go months at a time without powering on the console.  Occasional flukes serve to breathe some life into the system, with first-party Nintendo titles being the most obvious.  However, what I’ve found to be a hidden gem on the Wii is the light-gun game remakes, as well as the new ones developed specifically for the Wii.  These games take the one advantage Wii controls have, ie pointing the controller at the screen, and utilize it in a very natural way.  Of course, when you play a light-gun style game, you are missing a critical component of the equation: the light-gun.  Simply pointing a Wiimote at a screen and imagining that you’re shooting bullets out of it is kind of lame, so quite a few companies have developed light-gun shells for your Wiimote.     Thrustmaster, being one of them, sent us their Dual Trigger Gun NW to test on its own and against perhaps the most popular shell, the Nyko Perfect Shot.  Here’s how it measured up…

Water-cooling has seen greater mainstream acceptance in recent years. As a result, manufacturers have acknowledged the trend and expanded their product lineups to include these more exotic parts. But what’s the big draw for videocards, motherboards, or memory pre-installed with liquid cooling options? Simply put, increased cooling potential nets higher overclocking headroom which translates into higher, stable operating frequencies and ultimately, more performance. But in this particular case, performance is anchored by lower component temperatures and a quieter computing environment. Will consumers pay for the premium that these parts inherently demand? Zotac thinks so. In addition to their extensive roster of NVIDIA based graphics cards, they’ve introduced what will be the fastest single-GPU based GeForce when it hits the market.  Zotac’s GTX 285 Infinity Edition pushes the envelope by replacing the stock heatsink with a solid copper water block and raising clocks speeds extensively.  Head on over to the site and check it out…
