Title: Call of Duty: World at War PC @ TestFreaks

Review Link: http://www.testfreaks.com/blog/review/call-of-duty-world-at-war-pc/

Review Snipit:
” Call of Duty World at War is yet another entry into the World War II gaming genre, is it a welcome addition? COD:WaW is based off the COD4 engine, so it’s much more advanced than the others in the series, and it offers several new things to gameplay as well. Overall gameplay is fun, it’s exciting, and the graphics are excellent, and of course we’ve got the awesome Nazi Zombie mode at the end of the game.”

Title: Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades Nintendo DS @ TestFreaks

Review Link: http://www.testfreaks.com/blog/review/guitar-hero-on-tour-decades-nintendo-ds

Review Snipit:
“The rhythm band genre has become a major source of revenue in the music industry. With all the licensing fees and downloadable content, the music industry has a new economic paradigm to stimulate sales. Now instead of buying the latest album from Best Buy, you can download the same album for play on Guitar Hero. Knowing this, video game makers and record companies want these games on as many gaming platforms as possible. Not wanting to keep the portable gamer excluded from all the fun, Activision has created the DS version of their hit game – Guitar Hero. The original game was Guitar Hero: On Tour and the new version of the game is Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades. Today we will look at the latter version.”

NEW CONTENT (News) – ASUS internal clashes could create a new brand?

QUOTE: “By an anonymous source, we were handed a Taiwan-based magazine called “Business Today” (like Taiwan’s version of the Economist) and in this week’s issue, there is a big story published regarding the internal power struggle battles between Johnny Shih, who is the chairman of Asustek and Tung Tsu Hsien who is the new boss of Pegatron, which is the breakaway OEM division of Asustek.

We managed to get the magazine article translated, since the news is not online at all (even in Taiwan). In the lengthy article, it outlines how the now chairman of Pegatron, Tung Tsu Hsien, was forced out of the ASUS board and into his new position handling OEM business against the likes of Foxconn and others.

While only touching on the issue very lightly, the article writer claims that Tung Tsu Hsien has a strong interest in brand business, especially in the growing China market. It is said that Tung Tsu Hsien takes care of his staff very well and won the hearts of many influential and talented staff – many staff from the R&D and industrial design team at ASUS decided to follow Tung Tsu Hsien to Pegatron.”

UPDATE: 1/21/2009: We have learned that the problem is much worse than we originally thought. Microsoft employees confirmed that they are laying off 5,000 employees within the next months, and 1,500 are being notified today. The hardest hit is the Windows Mobile division, which is practically being gutted. The Windows Mobile division isn’t going away, because Microsoft plans to re-populate the staff with new hires or contractors.

NEW CONTENT (Digital Lounge) – The Godfather Trilogy HD Movie Review

QUOTE: “Every film critic, would be actor or director, fans of film – everyone, should see these films. There really is no other way to cut it. I can’t stress enough how important these films are and it truly is a blessing that we can view these films in this quality in our own homes with this Blu-ray release. Over a year and millions of dollars was spent re-mastering these films, but thank goodness they were. The aging materials that were used to release the previous DVD in 2002 were a far cry from what we have now and Paramount now has a properly re-mastered backup in much higher than Blu-ray resolution; this for further use and theatrical distribution.

There was a real danger that the Godfather would not have been able to be bought back from the brink if action wasn’t taken when it was, but the image we have now is breathtaking in clarity. If you have never seen these films, now would be the best time.”

“Multimedia players capable of reproducing various file types have become more and more popular lately. If someone, by any chance, is asking himself why anyone would use multimedia player instead of PC for watching movies and listening of music, than, we must tell you – because of so many advantages. We’re launching a brand new Cameras / Gadgets channel on HotHardware today, and with it we have a full evaluation of the Canon EOS 50D Digital SLR Camera.  Whether you’re an amateur photographer or someone who’s more serious about photography, a D-SLR can provide a lot of benefits over a simple point and shoot camera. With a D-SLR, you’ll get faster shooting speeds, better optics (and therefore a better quality picture), the ability to change lenses for ultimate flexibility, and much, much more.

Like many products, there are entry-level D-SLRs, professional-grade D-SLRs, and plenty of models in between. Canon’s 50D blurs the line between amateur and professional D-SLR cameras. This camera strikes a good balance with its price and feature set. With this camera, you’ll get a lot of features you wouldn’t find on entry-level models, but you won’t pay professional-grade prices, either. Users who are just making the jump to a D-SLR, for example will appreciate the 50D’s Live View mode, which lets you use the D-SLR’s LCD to frame an image, similar to the way you would frame an image using a point and shoot camera. For more advanced shooters, the 50D also has full manual controls to give you ultimate control over your photographs.  Come on by the site and check it out…

TITLE: Spire Torq Laptop Backpack @ LanOC Reviews

DESCRIPTION: For the past year I have been using a messenger style laptop bag to carry around my laptop. I’ve made a few trips but nothing major up until the beginning of this year. Our trip to CES this year required a lot of planning and packing. I was going to need a secure way to carry around my laptop at the show that I could also take onto the plane with me. I came in contact with a bag manufacture by the name of Spire; they have a great selection of high quality laptop bags including backpacks. Spire was nice enough to send out their new backpack called the Torq for me to be able to try out while I was at CES.

“The computer world has seen a big rise in the demand for all-in-one units, thanks largely to the stellar efforts of ASUS, Dell, and HP. Gone are the days of chunky grey boxes sitting under desks in the home office. And now with the Advent AIO-100 we are really tapping in to the fact that more and more people want to use their PCs in their kitchen, living rooms and bedrooms. The Advent AIO-100 is a million miles away from being the perfect computer, but it could be just the ticket for someone on a very tight budget that’s looking for a multi-functional and easy-to-use PC. Combining the popular, budget-friendly specifications of netbooks with the screen size of a desktop all wrapped up in one neat transportable package, the Advent AIO-100 is a reasonable effort. As long as you don’t expect cutting-edge design or performance you shouldn’t be disappointed. If it was our money, we’d look more closely at ASUS’ Eee Top range.”

Sometimes setting up a RAID array can be a pain in the butt. For one, professional RAID cards can be expensive. Two, many “easy RAID” features of motherboards are closed solutions. Three: cheaper solutions may not be reliable, and often require offline rebuilds when something goes wrong.. What if you want to have the redundancy protection or speed of RAID, but in an external modular box that doesn’t mess with your system’s current configuration?

SansDigital presents the industry with their MobileStor solutions, which are external hard drive enclosures with a built-in RAID controller. This solution allows you to instantly create several RAID arrays. Since the enclosure is its own little island, you can take your RAID array with you on place it on any computer.

NEW CONTENT (Digital Lounge) – Building an AMD HTPC – Capable of Blu-ray HD Audio Playback

QUOTE: “It has been quite a while since I last went under the hood of my current Home Theater PC (HTPC), but judging by the gradual degrading performance that I was beginning to see when watching the latest movies, it was pretty clear that an upgrade was in order.

With way too much Intel chip action in this office, we decided it was time to get some AMD silicon in play around here. So, we contacted our friends at AMD to see if they would hook us up with a processor to use in our new HTPC build. They obliged rather nicely with not only one, but four of their latest processors to try out – ranging from dual-core all the way up to quad-core – we’ll pick one today based on a range of tests.”
