Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=13128

It’s not even been one month since the release of Ubuntu 8.10, but this first alpha release will show early signs of what we can expect to see in this next Canonical-sponsored release — albeit many of the features are still in planning. In this article we will provide a glimpse at what Ubuntu 9.04 should hold in store to captivate Linux desktop users.”

Article Snippet:

“All in all, the BlacX is a fine piece of hardware. Solid construction, hot –swap capability, and good looks go a long way. Installation is a straight forward affair, with no surprises or hiccups. I was impressed by the speed over USB, though your mileage may vary.”

Title: Sapphire HD 4850 X2 Review at Overclockers Online
Link: http://www.overclockersonline.net/index.php?page=articles&num=2151
Quote: One of my biggest issues with high performance is the high levels of
heat generated and that often means loud cooling. I’m completely surprised
by how well the HD 4850 X2 cools itself, I was skeptical that the two tiny
heatsinks would be able to do the trick, especially when there’s probably
more metal on the shroud than with the heatsink. However, with the latest
BIOS flashed onto the card, Sapphire has managed to balance performance,
heat and cooling noise. I was still able to achieve a modest overclock while
staying at reasonable temperatures and quiet cooling.

ZOTAC GeForce 9800 GT 512MB AMP Video Card @ TheTechLounge
Quote:

“One of the greatest things about fabrication processes is that they can be shrunk.  Assuming that your architecture is forward-thinking enough, and it navigates issues with power plane-mapping and transistor leakage and all that, you can take your design, make it smaller, run it faster, and use less power.  ATI has reaped great successes going from 65nm to 55nm, and NVIDIA is going the same way with their G92 parts. This process will take their 8800 GT, an excellent performer at the time of its release, rename it 9800 GT, and reap away.  I mean, that would be the way to do it if you wanted to make any sense whatsoever.  Because this is a regular ol’ 65nm part.”

We’ve just posted an article that discusses Telus’ new 3G network claims.  Teuls says the have the largest “3G” network in Canada - even though they don’t support GSM or HSDPA.  They do support CDMA though and openly admit that they don’t have a real “3G” network, but want to make their customers feel satisfied.  More details in our article.

InsideHW.com has posted article about PDA device Samsung Omnia i900. You can read a clip from review:

“After interesting HTC PDAs we got in our test lab one more device from the same category that we’ve been waiting with great impatience. With launching of Omnia, Samsung joined to, more and more, interesting race for the best PDA device on the market. How did Samsung done its homework you can find out very soon. Quite differently from HTC Touch models, Samsung Omnia has a bit bigger dimensions and weight, but not in such amount that would bother anyone. Link: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/654
Category: Reviews

Summary:
TOP-1100P10 is a 1,100 W power supply from Topower supporting ESA technology that was never released, however it can be found in the market without ESA function as Tagan ITZ 1100. Check it out.

Here is a snippet:
“In the beginning of this year when nVidia was promoting their ESA (Enthusiast System Architecture) technology they sent to selected media a Thermaltake Armor+ ESA case, a Thermaltake BigWater 780e water cooler and a Topower TOP-1100P10 power supply, and that is how we got the product we are reviewing. This power supply, however, never reached the market, but it is basically a Tagan ITZ1100 power supply without ESA support, so on this review we will be also indirectly evaluating this model from Tagan.”

Today we have a new Core i7 system on the test bench, hot off the press at Velocity Micro.

Direct Link:

http://hothardware.com/Articles/Velocity-Micro-Edge-Z55-Intel-Core-i7-Gaming-System/

Snip:  Like many enthusiast system manufacturers, Velocity Micro makes hand-built, high-end gaming rigs using the latest components, such as Intel’s Core i7 processors. Velocity Micro claims that they pride themselves on their extensive customization options, meticulous assembly procedures, a technically trained staff, and in-house US-based support. Each system is hand-assembled by expert engineers and run through extensive testing to ensure complete functionality. As you’ll see, Velocity Micro’s engineers are also appear to be very careful about how they route and tie cables to ensure optimal airflow within the chassis.
