InsideHW.com has compared compatibility of OpenOffice and Google Docs with Microsoft Office. You can read a clip from review:

“All applications save data into binary files in predefined way and order and those predefined ordered files, because of that, have characteristic file format. In purpose of easier identification, ever since DOS days, name of the file has additional three characters called file extension. In the beginning, text files were mostly saved in pure text format with DOC extension, which represented first three characters of the word document…”

NEW CONTENT (Storage) - HighPoint RocketRAID 2640X4 PCI-E SAS Controller

QUOTE: “How SAS works is very similar to SATA; it uses the same seven wires to connect the drive to the host controller. However, instead of sending ATA packets, SCSI data bits are sent along the controller cable to the controller which then decodes them. This means that the drive has no interface chip; similar to parallel SCSI; it’s all handled on the controller card itself.

Today we have HighPoints Value series SAS controller card, aimed at the mid-range workstation or desktop with high data demands. The RocketRAID 2640X4 today makes its appearance here at TweakTown.”

Gigabyte 9800GT 512MB Video Card Review motherboards.org

Author: Benjamin Sun Date: 10-03-2008

With the 9800GT from Gigabyte, you get all of the features, performance and more of the 8800GT that was the top dog among the under $200 video card market a year ago, for a more affordable price of $120 online as of this writing. With performance that rivals the other cards at this price point, the GV-N98TZL-512H video card is a solid choice as it runs cooler than the competition, is shorter so it can fit in smaller cases and is priced near the same as the ATI HD 3870 online but has higher performance. Gigabyte has done an outstanding job on another front as their card supports the Ultra Durable features and HybridPower. Two of these cards in SLI should outperform a GTX280 or come close to it for a lower price meaning that this is a good deal

Title: Zalman CNPS 9300AT at Overclockers Online

Link: http://www.overclockersonline.net/index.php?page=articles&num=2031

Quote: While Zalman’s CNPS9300 AT certainly isn’t going to dethrone any of the top performance heatsinks, it is a very capable heatsink in a smaller frame than its older siblings. Installation is simple as long as you are used to removing the motherboard for Intel boards. Operation of the heatsink even at high speeds was quiet for me, though the amount of noise for something being silent can vary from application to application, however I wouldn’t see the 9300 AT being a problem in a HTPC.

Title: A-DATA Vitesta Gaming DDR2-800 4GB Kit @ Phoronix
Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12914
Summary: “Last week we had looked at the Corsair DHX 4GB DDR2-800MHz memory, which performed and overclocked very well and featured Corsair’s exclusive Dual-Path Heat Xchange cooling technology. Today though we are looking at the more mainstream A-DATA Gaming DDR2-800 4GB Kit. This memory is less expensive than Corsair’s DHX memory, but has higher latencies and simple heatspreaders. As you will find from reading this article, the overclocking potential is quite limited.”

GTR Evolution - PC Review

Date: 10-03-2008 By Vlad Mihaiescu

I’m not too good with math and physics and engineering, but I can almost guarantee it that you’ll get a lot more miles out of GTR Evolution than you would out of your car for the same twenty dollars. No, this is not the perfect racing game; actually it is far from it. But it was only $20. If it would have been $50, disappointment would be the appropriate word, but for what I paid, I think I actually got a good deal. Not only do I get a brand new game, but I get the prequel as well.

Velocity Reviews have a roundup of the most popular free Anti-Virus applications, which provide excellent protection for different types of users:

“Although it isn’t possible to fully protect your computer from a huge array of viral, spyware, and other malware threats, a good anti-virus application goes a long way to securing your PC. Now that most computers are permanently connected to the internet, it is more important than ever to ensure you have an up-to-date and reliable anti-virus package on your computer. Some people still don’t have any installed, thinking that because they are careful what they download, they will be safe. Others don’t like the thought of losing even the slightest amount of performance from their PC. However, the importance of getting a good virus scanner cannot be underestimated – and this lesson is often only learned after a virus infection.”

Reprise DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote

“I liked Reprise quite a a bit.  It is an engaging, funny and dark movie all at the same time.  Reprise follows the paths of two twenty-something Norwegian males as they begin their journey to become writers.  The movie starts off with Philip and Erik standing next to a mail post box, getting ready to send off their manuscripts for approval.  Basically they are both saying that things will change for them when they take this next step, and the rest of the movie follows their lives as their quest to become published becomes reality.”
