Dopod / HTC FM Transmitter with handsfree functions review

July 18th, 2008 by Kristofer

We all like to take our music with us be it cds, ipods or mp3 players we’ve got our tunes on the go with us to partially keep us entertained and to partially block out the world around us. I’ve got an AT&T Tilt cellphone, or otherwise known as the HTC TyTn II, and it has replaced my mp3 player as my portable music device of choice. I have my phone with me always, so why should I have to carry another device to listen to my music when my phone does an excellent job of it for me? One small problem with that is when I’m in the car I’m still stuck with cds or even the radio, with the radio it’s always channel flipping because of people talking or commercials, and with cds it’s advancing to different tracks because not  all of the music on a cd is good. I’ve got an FM Transmitter for my mp3 player that partially solves this problem, but again I have to carry another device with me, but not anymore…

Today on the review block I’ve got the Dopod / HTC FM Transmitter with handsfree functions from our friends over at USBFever and it not only enables me to play my mp3s that are stored on my phone through my car stereo, but it features a built in microphone that allows you to use it as a handsfree device…

Aten CS1782 KVM DVI Switch @ Phoronix

July 18th, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: Aten CS1782 KVM DVI Switch @ Phoronix
Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12625
Summary: “Aten, have you ever heard of them? If you haven’t, it’s not because they are a newcomer to the market place, as they actually have been around for nearly 30 years, but they focus all of their efforts on manufacturing KVM switch solutions. These KVM switches just aren’t limited to simple multi-port analog switching, but they have a variety of enterprise-grade switches, IP-based switching, embedded solutions, HDMI switches, and many other products. One of Aten’s newest products is the CS1782 DVI KVM Switch, which is designed for homes and small offices and has support for not only handling two systems with keyboard, mouse, and DVI monitor switching, but it goes beyond that to offer surround-sound audio and USB switching as well. In this review we are looking at the Aten CS1782 KVM DVI Switch.”

Corsair TX750W Power Supply Review @ OCModShop

July 18th, 2008 by Kristofer

Enter the Corsair TX Series 750W Power Supply. Like that very forgettable guy from that very forgettable show said way to often: More Power! This baby offers all the power you could need and then some, with enough connectors, including four for video cards, to make you think this thing is the offspring of some unknown species of squid. But enough euphemisms, let’s get down to the nitty gritty…

The TX750 currently has the highest wattage for Corsair, and still carrying the guarantee of 50 C under the heaviest of loads. And the suspects behind this cat’s coolness? A 140-mm fan, high efficiency and active PFC. And this is part of the new series from Corsair garnishes the use of a single high current +12 V rail instead of several virtual rails with lower currents. Previous models used three rails with lower currents.

Force3D ATi HD4870 @ InsideHW

July 18th, 2008 by Kristofer

InsideHW.com has posted review for Force3D ATi HD4870 graphics card. You can read a clip from review:

“Radeon HD4800 series of graphics cards is real refreshment in these days. Every new generation of GPU brought a big shift in performances and ATi this time showed us that top model graphics chip (RV770) doesn’t have to be expensive. Based on experience from previous HD3850 and HD3870 models, we expected that new model HD4870 will dominate in middle-high class, with lower price and higher performances than other competitors. But, we were wrong… Tests showed something quite unexpected. Still, before benchmark results let’s see what new GPU offers…”

Supreme Ruler 2020 - PC Review

Supreme Ruler 2020 - PC Review

Date: 07-16-2008 By Vlad Mihaiescu

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: as far as I’m concerned, this is the most complex and complicated game ever created. Should that deter you from trying it? Well, that all depends on how you feel about spending $40 on the product. Are you up to the challenge of becoming a Supreme Ruler? Do you have the time that it takes to strive at this game? You know your life better then I do, but if time is an issue, stay away from this title. If graphics or sound is an issue, once again, keep away. If strategy is your thing, then by all means try this game out. Supreme Ruler 2020 offers plenty of it.

nVidia Hybrid SLI Technology Article @ OCIA.net

July 18th, 2008 by Kristofer

OCIA.net has posted their latest article entitled:  nVidia Hybrid SLI Technology.  Below is a direct quote from the article:
The idea behind combining multiple graphics processors to increase performance is nothing new. While you might be familiar with recent SLI and Crossfire solutions from modern-day video card manufacturers nVidia and AMD/ATI, the birth of multi-GPU 3D gaming can be traced back more than ten years ago to a company called 3dfx and their Voodoo2 graphics chipset. Today we find nVidia and AMD/ATI competing on a new graphics front, combining a hybrid mix of integrated motherboard graphics chipset commonly found in low-cost mainstream computer systems with that of a more traditional separate discrete graphics card.

Quote: OCZ’s EliteXStream 800W is an all-around solid unit. The unit handled
our tests without a sweat and held stable even in the harshest environment.
As we have seen today, its performance is on par with much more expensive

Alienware Area-51 m15x gaming notebook review

July 18th, 2008 by Kristofer

Alienware Area-51 m15x gaming notebook review @ TechSpot

http://www.techspot.com/review/106-alienware-area51-m15x-notebook/

For years Alienware has been producing machines that cater to gamers and enthusiasts desires, coupling some of the industry’s most radical designs with top of the line PC hardware. So when Alienware introduced the Area-51 m15x we were obviously keen to check it out.

Our review sample came configured with the new Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 “Penryn XE” mobile processor and a GeForce 8800M GTX (512MB) graphics card. In short, this is the combination of the fastest possible mobile CPU and the fastest mobile GPU out there. Of course, this won’t come cheap as the retail value of our review sample was $4770.
