I can remember a time when floppy drives came standard on PCs and when CD-Rom drives were the popular things going, a new type of storage media that was all the rage. I can also remember my first CD-burner as well, it was very expensive, and it took a long time to burn a CD, so long in fact that it was more of a hassle than it was worth really. Today though we can burn CDs and DVDs in minutes on optical drives that cost a fraction of what they did a few years ago thanks to advances in technology, and their increased popularity…….

Memory cards are everywhere today and there are so many types, brands and speeds that it can get confusing at times when one is looking to purchase one. They can be found in PDAs, Cellphones, Computers, Cameras, MP3 players, game systems and many other gadgets on the market today. The primary use for many types of memory cards is digital cameras with cellphones coming in a close second as more and more phones are coming equipped with a slot for them to let you expand your storage capabilities.
One important thing to know about memory cards is that not all cards are created equal, and that is in terms of quality and their transfer speeds, being a product reviewer, over the years I’ve had the chance to own and test many brands of cards, of course doing what I do I’ve got many gadgets and have purchased many memory cards as well.
From my experience it’s often better to go with a name brand over a cheap inexpensive lesser known company when purchasing anything tech related, this I’ve found goes the same for memory cards, it might be cheaper but in the long run you’ll regret purchasing it as it won’t last as long and usually with cheaper cards they perform below their rated or advertised speeds….

Following the recent Consumer Home Piracy market research survey carried out by Futuresource Consulting in the USA (sample size 3,613) and the UK (sample size (1,718), I’ve attached the resulting findings for your attention, I do hope this of interest to you. The study follows on from similar research carried out in 2007, so year on year comparisons can be made showing the changing consumer behaviours in home copying.
In particular:
- around one third of all respondents in both countries admitted to making copies of pre-recorded DVDs in the last six months, including many recent blockbuster titles on DVD.
- 18-24 year old males are most likely to copy DVDs
- UK respondents showed a significant increase in copying TV shows on DVD
- If respondents had been unable to make copies of DVDs, 63% in the UK and 77% in the USA said they would have purchased all, some or at least a few of the titles, clearly showing the scale of the lost revenues to the home video industry.
