MHW has a review of a refurbished Dell Axim X51v Pocket PC, with a 624 MHZ processor, VGA graphics, and a 3D accelerator chip there is a lot here to like.
Quote:
“As mentioned earlier the Dell Axim X51v is refurbished. That means that inside the standard OEM white stickered cardboard box you will find a stylus pen, battery cover, USB Sync cable, power adapter, and new battery, but you will not find an owner’s manual or the Dell companion CD. These are not insurmountable obstacles, since the manual is available from Dell in .PDF format. You do, however, miss out on the Dell companion CD, which as far as I know is not available for download from Dell and contains some extra bonus Pocket PC software.”

Now that Bill has turned the helm over to Steve to guide the MS death star and the ship has taken more than its share of broadsides, its almost tough to keep kicking Vistaalmost.
Ok so maybe Intel did finally decide that theyre not going to install Vista across the board. So? Maybe theyre going to put all their corporate systems on their other customers OS? Maybe theyve decided that freeware — when we first heard of Ubuntu we thought it was a new African nation — is easier for the global enterprise to use and support?

Battlefield Bad Company - PS3 Review
Date: 07-06-2008 By Chris Gump
While the Battlefield games have been hit and miss over the years, the choice to take this game into single player is definitely a good move on both EA and Dice’s part. The game has translated well, despite its flaws. This game may not be as wonderful as other sites make it out to be, but it’s still a fun game worthy of a Gamer’s Choice Silver at least a rental before you decide whether or not to buy it. There’s a lot of fun to be had on this disc, although a standard Battlefield style conquest mode would have made Bad Company truly worth the price asked.

Digit-Life Review: XFX nForce 790i Ultra 3-Way SLI and Zotac nForce 790i-Supreme Motherboards
Excerpt:
“We decided it would be logical to merge reviews of XFX nForce 790i Ultra 3-Way SLI and Zotac nForce 790i-Supreme into one article, because both products are, in fact, reference boards that were ordered by NVIDIA from its manufacturer. Thus, if you are going to buy something similar from another company (e.g. EVGA), this article will also be useful.”

Rosewill R2-RAID Enclosure & RC-218 Controller
Link:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Rosewill/R2-Raid
Brief:
The Rosewill R2 is a dual bay RAID enclosure for two 3.5″ SATA HDDs. It supports connectivity via USB or eSATA. With the included software you can create RAID 0, RAID 1 or JBOD arrays for increased performance or data safety. Since eSATA offers the same performance as you would see from an internal drive, the RAID 1 performance is very impressive with over 108 MB/s.

Responding to the Demand for Next-Generation Notebooks, OCZ Introduces DDR3 Laptop Memory for High-End Mobile Systems
Sunnyvale, CA—July 7, 2007—OCZ Technology Group, a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory, today announced the all-new DDR3 SODIMM modules as its next generation notebook memory to support the impending Intel® Centrino® 2 mobile platform. These latest memory offerings for notebooks help reduce power consumption and increase speed and bandwidth, resulting in a higher performing laptop. As next-generation laptops are introduced in the upcoming weeks, OCZ is prepared to deliver high-performance DDR3 for these advanced gaming and professional systems.
The benefits of DDR3 memory now extends beyond desktop systems to laptops, offering increased frequencies at lower voltage requirements. OCZ’s PC3-8500 and PC3-10666 SODIMM kits support enthusiast-grade performance and bring speeds to notebook systems that were previously unimaginable. Early-adopting gamers and professionals will benefit from the more productive computing experience that the combination of the new Centrino 2 technology and OCZ DDR3 modules can provide.
“The Centrino 2 platform is a logical extension of Intel’s efforts spearheading DDR3 acceptance in the enthusiast segment in the desktop sector,” commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. “From a technical standpoint, DDR3 memory technology is far superior to DDR2, from the higher frequency range resulting in better overall system performance to the energy savings at idle stemming from loss-less termination to the supply-voltage level and resulting in paramount energy savings in the typical notebook usage pattern.”

Here is a snippet:
“All cars from Honda currently sold in the USA can come with an optional GPS system nicknamed “Navi” featuring GPS navigation with voice recognition (the voice recognition system also commands the audio system and air conditioning). The Nintendo Wii is one of the most innovative console systems in recent memory. It has become incredibly popular with all age groups due to the motion sensing ability of the controllers. Unfortunately, one risk in using these controllers is the possibility of them flying out of one’s hands and hitting other people or objects. Although they do come with a safety strap, some people eschew them while playing the Wii. Combine this situation and the increased number of LCD and Plasma TVs found in todays households, this creates a recipe for disaster. A smashed display can truly be a devastating scenario.
Unfortunately for one person, James Mieczkowski of the Cheetah Websites Corporation, this exact scenario occurred when his seven-year-old smashed a hole in his new $2,500 LG Flat Screen with a Wii remote.
Luckily for the rest of us, he decided to design a product to protect most sized LCD/Plasma TVs from the scourge of flying Wiimotes. Using an ultra high strength acrylic that is nearly indestructible, he created the Cheetah Screen Protector. Composed of ¼” Plexiglas and elevated away from the television screen with ¼” rubber spacers, the Cheetah Screen Protector provides a ½” buffer between the outside world and your HDTV.
Available in sizes from 22” to 52”, there should be a model that fits most mainstream consumer HDTVs. TvScreenProtector.com even has specially designed protectors for 46” to 52” Sony XBR models.
As a Wii owner and father of two little children, I become very anxious when they decide to play the Wii in front of our LCD HDTV. Today, we will see if the Cheetah Screen Protector can provide some peace of mind and not negatively affect the HDTV viewing experience.
Let’s get started….

Title: RadeonHD Driver To Use AtomBIOS @ Phoronix
Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12563
Summary: “We’ve talked all too often about AtomBIOS and there being two different open-source drivers that support the same ATI Radeon hardware with the key architectural difference between the two just being the use of this video BIOS abstraction layer. From the beginning, AMD was planning to have their Novell partners use AtomBIOS when writing this new (at the time, R500/600) driver, but the developers ultimately declined. These developers have expressed their opinions on AtomBIOS, which range from it being an unbearable mess to this design being nothing more than writing open-source code to power someone else’s closed-source work. However, under pressure by AMD, the developers are now preparing to use AtomBIOS to a much greater extent within the xf86-video-radeonhd driver. In this article we’ll tell you more about what’s gone on and where you can checkout this AtomBIOS-bearing RadeonHD driver.”

We have just posted up a review of the mainstream FSP Everest 80Plus 700W PSU. This PSU has some modular connections with the main power connections for the motherboard hard wired into the unit. It offers up quite a few connections and is SLI certified, so it sounds good. Head on over and check out our review and well see if it performs good as well.

Quote:
As of late there has been a few companies that have branded their PSUs with “SLI Certified” logos that weren’t actually certified. We decided to see if this feature was accurate so we went over to the SLI Zone and found the Everest 80Plus 700W unit in the list for dual GeForce 7900GTX or dual GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB cards. These are pretty dated, and I’m sure that the PSU could handle newer cards, but this is what it is certified for.

Quote: As a minimalist, I normally prefer function over form. However, the
CoolJag Programmable Mini LED Flash fan incorporates both. A great 120mm

with your choice of four different messages of up to 16 characters. Fully
clear, the fan allows the text to be emphasized thanks to the blue and red
LEDs.

| Tagan Black Pearl Case Review |
 |
Author: Doc Overclock Date: 07-06-2008
Tagan has done an excellent job with the Black Pearl aluminum chassis in many ways due to the fact that it offers a variety of features and no real drawbacks of any type in its overall achievement. From its front control panel and easy access pop-out USB 2.0 ports to its roomy interior and solid construction the Black Pearl is winner. The fact that the BP comes geared for liquid cooling is another bonus that will highly benefit the user that is planning on exercising that feature. The only drawback to this fine enclosure is it’s close to $300.00 price tag that will daunt many users on a budget, but for those who do not care for price and do not want to skimp on their case, this is a bad boy.

CIA.net has posted their review of the Diablotek GeForce 8600GT 1GB Graphics Card. Below is a direct quote from the review:
“Nowadays, while they have started to make some higher-end graphics cards as well (for example, a 9600GT 1GB), Diablotek still has some good mid-range offerings, like their 8600GT 1GB that we have for review today. The new trend these days seems to be to go overboard with our PC components and buy high-end everything, when all you are going to do is chat and check your email. The 8600GT is for those among us who realize that onboard video just isn’t enough, but anything else wouldn’t be necessary as often is the case in a HTPC. The extra 512MB of RAM over reference should give a cheap performance boost to iron out kinks, but again, nothing more than you need.“

Title: Rent movies instantly: Apple TV review
Link: http://spicygadget.com/2008/07/06/rent-movies-instantly-apple-tv-review/
Quote: “Movie rentals, movie rentals, movie rentals, did I mention movie rentals? We either drop by a brick and mortar store like Blockbuster or rent our movies by mail through Netflix. Driving out to a store or waiting for your movie in the mail isn’t so bad when you have no other alternatives, but what if I told you there was a better way? What if I said you could choose a movie and start watching it in under 30 seconds? If living in America for 25 years has taught me anything, it’s that we love instant gratification and convenience, which nicely sums up Apple TV movie rentals.”

NEW CONTENT (Digital Lounge) - National Treasure HD Movie Review
QUOTE: “The best way I can describe ‘National Treasure’ is to imagine The Da Vinci Code, change that European setting for the United States, lessen the grisly murders and make it family friendly. In fact, I am willing to bet that was the pitch to the studio.
Essentially the storyline goes like this: Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicholas Cage) is a wannabe archaeologist looking for treasure left by the U.S. founding fathers. Unfortunately for him, the last necessary clue is so close, yet so far, being inscribed on the bottom of the declaration of independence.”

“Sony’s VPL-EX50 delivers consistently bright images of up to 2500 ANSI lumens. Colours aren’t as rich as a good home theatre projector, but the VPL-EX50 isn’t designed for DVD and Blu-Ray playback (4:3 native aspect ratio and 900:1 contrast ratio aren’t great assets). Sharpness is fantastic, and its features are well conceived, making the VPL-EX50 an excellent projector for use in small to medium-sized venues. The front-inclined design helps achieves optimal image placement, and a short throw distance is perfect if space is limited. As a bonus, the new E-series projector is also easy to maintain, with a long-life filter that is timed to coincide with when the lamp needs to be replaced (around 3000 hours), reducing the number of maintenance sessions required.”
