As many of you know, ATI has been particularly aggressive with their FireGL workstation graphics card lineup over the past six months. While their flagship R600-architecture was the basis for the solid (but ultimately underwhelming) Radeon HD2900XT for the gaming market, our tests have shown that this particular GPU architecture is much more competitive in the workstation market. While the R600 may not be the best choice for a high-end gaming rig, it is indeed a powerful chip for high-end OpenGL work, and as such, has led to a revival of sorts for ATI’s FireGL lineup.
With an excellent performing workstation GPU in tow, ATI finally took the steps to get their latest generation of FireGL cards out to the market fast – much faster than we’ve seen from them in the past. ATI now has a number of R600-based workstation products out on the market, and is competing quite well with NVIDIA in terms of both price and performance. ATI’s cards generally offer nearly all the bang for the buck as the QuadroFX lineup, but ATI has some unique models as well which give them their own following of users. One of their newest models, the FireGL V8600 1GB, has finally hit the market. And this is the card we’ll be looking at today…

Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote
“The look of the movie is typical Burton dark and grungy. I love it. The contrast of the music with the grim setting is another thing that gets my attention. It’s all just different than anything I have seen in a long time, if ever and I appreciate the break from convention…..”

Assassin’s Creed Xbox 360 Review
Date: 04-16-2007 Written By Chris GumpIf you have a 360, or even a PS3 or just a PC, do yourself a favor and check out Assassin’s Creed. The newly released PC version is supposed to have more side missions added in to keep you busy. Whatever system you get it for though, have some spare controller batteries around if you aren’t running wired, you’ll need them. This game can draw you in that much. Games like this should make you all happy you choose gaming as a pastime, and manages to deliver on every level, although a tiny bit more variation in missions would have been nice.

* Title: Thermaltake BlacX HDD Docking Station @ APH Networks
* Description: SATA may be an interface that supports hot swap, but in reality, how often is it truly taken advantage of and used for the purpose of hot swapping? More than often, it’s no more than just an array of disks residing inside our computers that ends up rarely moved. For an external interface, eSATA is nice and all for its performance, but to an extent that’s really an extension of an internal storage medium to external hard drives — hot swap is necessary as what’s that made USB so popular, but it doesn’t really solve the problem of having a need to go through a bunch of internal SATA hard drives quickly. For example, some users need it for testing hard drives, while others want to quickly pull some data off a drive without installing it in another computer. As far as I’m concerned, there’s one product in the market that has gained immense popularity and tons of internet hype that allows you to quickly swap internal SATA hard drives without ripping anything apart to get the job done. And that’s the Thermaltake BlacX, an HDD docking station. Let’s see how it gets its job done, and to what extent it has done well.

Appetite for Tech has a review for Peggle for the PC that I hope your readers will enjoy! Here is the link:
http://www.appetitefortech.com
Snippet incoming:
You have been playing Counterstrike for two or three hours or something else hardcore that has captured your imagination and your mum has just come in and told you not to start another session because your dinner is nearly ready. So you look pleadingly at your dad sitting next to you with his eyes all bloodshot and looking like saucers from outer space but then you hear his empty stomach growl at you like the Wookie in Star Wars so you realize there is no point, your Mum wins.
You know what I mean, you want to waste fifteen to thirty minutes gaming till you take you place at the food trough because there will be no Pizza tonight as its that rotten night when once a week you are made to eat “real” food.
Well this game maybe just the answer you need because it still has guns, ammo and lots of ways to blow stuff up. The game also features power ups and Characters that are heaps of fun and all will have you smiling for hours plus you can easily do a mission of two in fifteen to twenty minutes and the challenges you are given will even challenge Buffy the Vampire Slayer herself. except she gets a stake and you get a cannon.
Sounds pretty fair.
This game is so much fun that even Steam had their own version made called Peggle Extreme which they included in their Orange Box package of games, and you can’t argue with that.

NEW CONTENT (Visual) - Zalman TRIMON 22″ 3D Monitor – Exclusive
QUOTE: “The existence of the 3D concept has been around since people could express themselves artistically; for example, through painting or sculptures. When the first such expression began, I certainly could not tell you. However, I can tell you that 3D has evolved to the point where it is now commercially available for the average user for under $1000 USD. Admittedly that’s a lot more than most would want to pay for it, but it is a positive step in the right direction.
The TRIMON is the first commercial 3D monitor available to the public from Zalman, and it is not often one gets to be the first to review a finally finished product. We have been waiting for these ZM-M220W monitors to hit the shelves for a little over a year now, with the first introduction of them at CEBIT 2007.”

he Pegasus 210 (from £799) is a 12-inch ultra-portable laptop designed to meet the everyday demands of business professionals. The machine pretty much sucks at running games and high-end multimedia, but for number crunchers who can’t afford a ThinkPad it might be just the ticket. In fact, if it wasn’t for the jaw-dropping ThinkPad X300 (from £1790), the Pegasus 210 might actually be a contender for your cash.”http://www.biosmagazine.co.uk

NEW CONTENT (Digital Lounge) - Hands On With DTS HD Master Audio
QUOTE: “Yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment finally gave home theatre fanatics what they had been clamouring for since late 2006, when the PlayStation 3 console launched. With the delivery of the latest console firmware, version 2.30, owners whom have an amplifier capable of outputting PCM sound will benefit from improved sound with Blu-ray movies encoded in DTS HD Master Audio.
The days of lossy audio in home theatre are over; now the onus is on home theatre fans to embrace these new technologies, and if they truly love the art form, there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t.”

* Title: Vizo Propeller II PCI Slot Fan @ APH Networks
* Description: Over the last couple of years, the computer market has become fierce and intense in all areas. The tight competition between processor makers AMD and Intel, as well as the graphics card front on the ATI/AMD and NVIDIA side, we have come to expect more powerful processors and video cards to do various tasks — whether it’s to play the latest DX10 games such as Company of Heroes, to something that simply pushes our graphics cards to the limit such as Crysis. Of course, there is a price to pay for this rapid increase in graphics performance. According to Murphy’s Law, “If anything can go wrong, it will”, there will always be one outcome that becomes detriment to the overall product. This is especially true in graphics cards; as seen with the increase of graphics performance, it tends to produce more heat. According to our previous tests, this application is true when it comes to the 8800GTS G92 running at a whopping 84 degrees on load. It could be cooled with an additional case fan or an improved heatsink, but what if you are tight on space? Well, then you are in luck, because today, we will review an affordable product that not only provides cooling in congested areas — the Vizo Propeller II PCI slot cooler with direct heat exhaust.
