OCZ Freeze Thermal Compound Review

April 3rd, 2008 by Kristofer

OCZ seems to have their hand in quite a bit and when they put their name on a product you expect something that performs well and is of good quality, and I’ve yet to see where that is not the case.

Today for review I’ve got the OCZ Freeze Thermal Compound, when you think of OCZ you normally think of quality ram, but they are into cooling as most people know. The OCZ Freeze is another entry into the every growing lineup of instantly ready compounds, meaning they have no burn-in time required, something that I think most people appreciate greatly. Not only is the OCZ Freeze instantly ready but also non-toxic and very easy to apply. How does it stand to others out there?

Read on to find out..

new products: aquagrafx 9800GX2 and aquadriveX4

April 3rd, 2008 by Kristofer

1. aquagrafx 9800 GX2

As of next week the aquagrafx 9800 GX2 will be available.

The cooler is made of 2 consecutively circulated coolers made of pure copper (99.9%). The coolers are extreme thin and therefore pretty light, so the total weight is under 800 g.

The aquagrafx achieves excellent temperatures and cools both GPUs, mosfets, Ram and the bridge chip.

The copper elements are connected via a terminal made of Delrin. The connectors of the aquagrafx are G 1/4″.

Pricing for the cooler will  be 129.90 Euro and for a graphic card 9800 GX2 with mounted cooler and warranty 619.90 Euro.

2. aquadrive X4 copper

Our hard disk series aquadrive has a new baby:

The aquadrive quad copper edition

This hard disk cooler can take up to 4 hard disks which are cooled and decoupled very well in the completely encapsulated case. Merely three 5 1/4″ bays are used and the cooler contains a fluid reservoir at the same time, this one has a greater capacity than the aquatube.

This new star of our hard disk series uses delrin as case material which takes vibrations better than aluminum due to its structure. Solid copper plates are used inside. Their weight approximately corresponds to the weight of an aquadrive dual aluminium. In turn these are surrounded by a water jacket which also takes and lowers vibrations. The whole aquadrive is kept in the already approved rubber components which decouple it from the case. The inside of the case is provided with a special layer covering to take high-frequency noises.

To be able to take SATA and ATA plates without too big case openings, the openings are executed ex works for SATA as of now and can be used for ATA drives by breaking them out.

The integrated fluid reservoir is filled by an enclosed squeeze bottle at the front. By two tubes the two reservoirs are communicating with each other so that the filling level compensates itself. The current water level can comfortably be read in the right profile. A little red ball indicates the fill level.

The aquadrive quad is available for  EUR 139.90.

The connections are G1/4″.

Material: delrin/copper/stainless steel
Designed for four hard disks in three 5 1/4″ bays
Capacity of the reservoir: 250 ml

Frontlines: Fuel of War (PC, Xbox 360) Review @ [OC]ModShop

April 3rd, 2008 by Kristofer

Taken from the pages of todays headlines Frontlines: Fuel of War is an edgy and topical action game that sets new standards for the genre. Set in the near future, the world is facing a crisis of doomsday proportions due to the severe lack of energy and oil available. With chaos and utter collapse of cities and society everywhere, two factions have formed who battle one another for the last remaining energy resources on the planet.

Players take on the role of a soldier from the Western Coalition as they battle the Red Star Alliance which is comprised of Russia and China. As the game starts, players enter a battle in a desolate area which is one of the last remaining sources of oil, and as such, is hotly contested by both sides. Using mission objectives, players battle to various areas of the map to defeat enemy troops and obtain strategic objectives. Along the way, all manner of high end weapons and vehicles are available for use. I particularly enjoyed the flying drone unit, that when deployed, allowed me to fly it to a strategic point in the enemys defenses and detonate with spectacular results.

There Will Be Blood 2 Disc Collectors Edition DVD Review @ Ascully.com

April 3rd, 2008 by Kristofer

There Will Be Blood 2 Disc Collectors Edition DVD Review @ Ascully.com

Quote

“This movie is one of my favorites in a long long time. I’m still thinking about it. The characters are fascinating and a little bit haunting. It comes from a novel, and is loosely based on that story. The lead character is Daniel Plainview, a man driven toward and against his own future. We meet him as he is digging a hole, a mine, something all alone. He finds a hunk of gold, just as he falls and injures his leg. We get the idea very quickly that this man is hard as nails. He drags himself to the exchange office and from there I got a clear view of who he is. He’s one of those people pushed by his past, forged in hard times, and now will focus so completely on his goals that something will be lost in his wake….”

News - Tagan BZ900 900W PSU at Overclockers Online

April 3rd, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: Tagan BZ900 900W PSU at Overclockers Online
Link: http://www.overclockersonline.net/?page=articles&num=1662
Quote: Tagan has on its hand a truly interesting product. The BZ900 900W is
a top notch performer, it held its ground amidst the harsh testing
environment and did so while acoustically remaining fairly silent. And who
could forget the lights. This unit packs enough LEDs for its own light show!
For the modders, the BZ900 900W is second to none. Unfortunately, for those
who would rather a more subtle power supply, there is no switch for the
lights and or fix without first getting to work with a pair of wire cutters.

April 3rd, 2008 by Kristofer

OCIA.net has posted their review of the Apevia X-QBOII Micro-ATX Case.  Below is a direct quote from the review:

One of my all-time favorite cases has been the X-Jupiter tower, one that until just recently I had been using as my primary enclosure. Today I’ll be taking a look at the new X-QBOII, a micro-tower case that appears to be sort of a scaled-down version of the X-Supra mid-tower, also recently reviewed here at OCIA.net.

April 3rd, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Casing & Cooling) - Mega 9-way VGA Cooler Roundup

QUOTE: “ATI and NVIDIA have progressed from the days of their products being called Dust Busters or ShopVacs, but as you will read today, the aftermarket still produces better coolers. Cards like the GeForce 5800 and Radeon X1800/X1900 were close to unusable for most directly from the factory.

Today we are going to look at nine of the best aftermarket VGA coolers that will cool the hottest video cards ever produced. If you are looking for a solution to get a higher 3DMark score or just want to quiet down a home theater, there is a product in this article for you!”

ASUS GeForce 8800GS TOP 384MB

April 3rd, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Visual) - ASUS GeForce 8800GS TOP 384MB

QUOTE: “While there were whispers of the 8800GS in the background, it was never really one of those cards that got much attention. Everyone was too busy concentrating on the 8800GT and new 8800GTS 512MB card to really pay much attention to it.

ASUS are only one of two companies in Australia who have an 8800GS on the market here. The only other company who chose to take up the card and release it locally was XFX. The card seems to be a bit of a weird model and we’re not too sure where it will sit. The card should sit behind a 8800GT, but the 9600GT also sits just behind it. It’s possible that both cards perform quite similar and companies chose to uptake the 9 series model over the ageing 8800 series.”

OrigenAE C10 Low Profile CPU Cooler @ techPowerUp

April 3rd, 2008 by Kristofer

Title:
OrigenAE C10 Low Profile CPU Cooler

Link:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Origen_ae/C10

Brief:
Most HTPC users will find that there are only a limited number of CPU coolers available to use in most HTPC cases because of their smaller size. OrigenAE created the C10 to help fill that void. The C10 has three U-shaped copper heatpipes that come in direct contact with the CPU, and 35 aluminum fins behind a standard size 70mm fan.
