Intel Releases 965/G35 IGP Programming Documents @ Phoronix

February 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: Intel Releases 965/G35 IGP Programming Documents @ Phoronix
Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=11765
Summary: “At the Linux.Conf.Au conference today, Intel has announced
NDA-free programming documentation covering the 965 Express and G35
Express integrated graphics processors (IGPs). Intel’s display driver
has long been open-source, but up until now, they have not been
releasing the programming documentation for these products to the
public. This move comes months after AMD announced their new open-source
strategy and began releasing register documentation on their R500 and
R600 GPUs. These newly released documents by Intel even cover 3D and
video programming for their IGPs.”

Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 512MB @ Phoronix

February 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 512MB @ Phoronix
Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=11774
Summary: “Last week AMD introduced the ATI Radeon HD 3400 and 3600
series, which are the new low-end graphics processors compared to the
Radeon HD 3800 series. These budget graphics cards are branded as the
Radeon HD 3450, 3470, and 3650 and are all available for under $100 USD.
While they may be cheap, they are the first graphics cards to introduce
support for DisplayPort. DisplayPort is the newest digital display
interface standard, backed by VESA, and is direct competition to HDMI.
DisplayPort has yet to be fully supported by the available Linux display
drivers, but the Catalyst Linux driver already supports these new ATI
graphics cards and there will be open-source support through the
RadeonHD driver in the coming days. At hand today we have the Sapphire
Radeon HD 3650 512MB graphics card as we deliver the first Linux
benchmarks for this RV635 GPU.”

Steelseries Ikari Optical Gaming Mouse Review @ Tweaknews.net

February 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

Article Name: Steelseries Ikari Optical Gaming Mouse Review @ Tweaknews.net
Article Url: http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/steelseries_ikari_optical_gaming_mouse_review/

Article Snippet:

“With the exception of the size and the overly bright indicator LEDs, this is a very sound product. To spice up the pot a bit more, the price is also very reasonable for a high quality optical mouse. If you are used to large mice and want more of the same then don’t hesitate to give the Ikari a look. It is a very solid and comfortable mouse to use, and a sheer joy to game with.”

Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth Headset Reviewed @ TheTechLounge

Title:
Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth Headset Reviewed @ TheTechLounge

Quote:
“People recognize Aliph Jawbones in the same way that they easily spot
iPhones.  These Aliph headsets are loved by those who use them, while
everyone else in close proximity of the secret conversation mutters
profanity.  Showoff, that’s what he is, the cockbite with that hundred-
dollar Bluetooth headset.  ”Look at me, I’m Alexander Damn Bell.”
Aliph talks about the Jawbone (<em>the</em> Jawbone) like it isn’t a
headset.  As though it were an idol for worship.  And after the
rebuking I suffered at the feet of their Cockney representative at
CES, I dug in for this review with prejudice.”

Razer Pro|Click Mac Gaming Mouse Review @ Virtual-Hideout

February 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

Title: Razer Pro|Click Mac Gaming Mouse Review @ Virtual-Hideout

Review link: http://www.virtual-hideout.net/reviews/Razer_Pro_Click_Mac/index.shtml

Quote: “The Razer Pro|Click, is a wired, high sensitivity Mac gaming mouse, with same “Always on” feature common with Razer’s other mice. It is an Optical mouse, like the Razer Deathadder, but it takes it shape from the Razer Copperhead. Introduced to me as a gaming solution for my Mac Pro. The white coloring is an obvious choice to match Apple’s color scheme for pretty much everything that isn’t silver.”

OCIA.net has posted their review of the Swiftech H2O-220 Compact Liquid Cooling Kit.  Below is a direct quote from the review:

Swiftech has been around since 1994 and is perhaps best known for their thermoelectric and liquid cooling solutions that first gained popularity in late 2000 / early 2001. Recently I had the opportunity to test out one of their latest water-cooling kits, the H2O-220 Compact. I know some of you are probably thinking, “oh no, not a water-cooling kit...

MSI P35 Platinum Combo Motherboard @ Viper Lair

February 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

Can’t make up your mind with DDR2 or DDR3? MSI’s latest P35 based board helps make the choice with you.

“Overclocking the old fashioned way was actually very easy, despite the E6750’s 333MHz FSB. With little effort, we were able to reach 490Mhz on air. Granted, we’ve had to increase the voltages to the max for CPU and chipset, but this was impressive considering we were using air cooling. I was able to squeeze an extra 4MHz out of the Gigabyte board, but given in the past I’ve had some issues with overclocking MSI boards, I was quite pleased with the results.”

ASUS Triton 75 CPU Cooler

February 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Casing & Cooling) - ASUS Triton 75 CPU Cooler

QUOTE: “As mentioned before the Triton 75 is a passive cooler. ASUS includes all of the hardware needed to attach a 120mm fan to the cooler. Assuming that most users will be adding a fan we are going to test the Triton 75 with a 120mm fan.

The Triton 75 is a four heatpipe cooler with a copper base and uses aluminum fins to dissipate heat. As you will soon see the cooler is designed to pass air from above and push it down to the motherboard.”

HDTV for Under $100 @ OCModShop

February 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

While watching High-definition TV shows is more interesting and more dramatic than viewing standard definition television, purchasing two additional HDTV sets plus the cable service wasnt really an option. With a little online research we found out that more than 30 percent of the American households dont subscribe to cable or satellite service. Instead they enjoy their entertainment the old fashioned wayover the air.

To give our kids an economical HDTV viewing solution, we found a complete family of HDTV entertainment options from Pinnacle Systems at Best Buy. They were ideal because they were USB PCTV solutions that took up absolutely no room, worked with their notebook computers and were easy on the pocketbook.
The PCTV HD Pro packages we chose cost under $100 each and brought in a wide choice of HD channels in the store and in their apartments.

Ultra Products M998 Case Review

February 1st, 2008 by Kristofer

Ultra Products M998 Case Review motherboards.org

Author: Jon Russell Date: 01-31-2008

Overall this is a nice case. There is plenty of room to work, and it has some nice features. Though the power bar is a cool feature I think there are some revisions that could be made to make it more compatible with the majority of power supplies out there. The cooling performance of the case was adequate. The two 120mm fans provided moved enough air through the case to keep the temperature inside 20 degrees of ambient. Considering we were running an over clocked e6650 with an 8800GTS video card that’s pretty good
