Nexus Basic Series reviewed at BurnOutPC.com

February 29th, 2008 by Kristofer

We’ve just posted another review. This time we took a look at Nexus Basic Series fans.

Quote
“he Basic Series fans are the same Real Silent fans as we looked at last year. But the real difference comes with the included Silicon Fan mounts and the color scheme being used on the 80 and 92mm as well. The fans are quiet but slightly underpowered in CFM. But the difference is in both noise / cfm is very slim. But their cheaper than the Noctua’s and seriously though, how quiet do you want them? These are pretty quiet already :).”

ENERMAX Caesar Keyboard Review

February 29th, 2008 by Kristofer

ENERMAX Caesar Keyboard Review motherboards.org

Author: Benjamin Sun Date: 02-28-2008

If you can get around the feel of the keys and the responsiveness issues, this keyboard might be for you. The extra features including the brushed aluminum construction and the keys suit the new keyboard user well and make for an interesting choice for those that pound away at keys all day like Doc and me. The extra features of the keyboard including the onboard audio jacks and USB 2.0 ports are excellent features. Doc says this is the worst keyboard he has ever spent $89 on and I have to agree.

Quote:

There are lots of options if you’re looking for a HTPC or basic motherboard, and the Gigabyte GA-73PVM-SH2 is yet another. If you start to compare feature-for-feature, you’re going to have a tough time finding a board with more features than the GA-73PVM-SH2, and that’s what makes this board a great choice.

Palit GeForce 9600GT Sonic Graphics Card

February 29th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Visual) - Palit GeForce 9600GT Sonic Graphics Card

QUOTE: “As with all Sonic models from Palit this card comes out with an increased core and memory clocks so we’ll just have to see how it goes today against the competition. But before we check that out, we of course need to have a look at the package and card which should prove to be very good. It’s clearly got some stand out features; what are they? Well, there’s only one way to find out and that’s by moving forward.

The Palit 9600GT could be one of the best graphics cards we’ve seen to date, so let’s see if first impressions hold up as we get stuck straight into it.”

I4U: Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000 Review

February 29th, 2008 by Kristofer

I4U NEWS reviews the new Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000.

Quote from the review:
“This wireless mouse is rechargeable and includes a charging base. The mouse also has shortcut buttons for Windows Vista.
As with the 6000, when you accelerate the mouse pointer with the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000 via the software you give up some accuracy for the sake of smaller hand movements. The scroll wheel is smooth scrolling and lacks any click. This makes it easier to scroll long pages by flicking the scroll wheel. However, I found that I hit the scroll wheel often be accident making the page jump around a bit.”

Microsoft Patents Killer Mobile Dating Application

Imagine a dating site that allowed you to upload a photo of a certain hot celebrity and then returned profiles of all the users who looked like them?

Another implementation of the software is a HotOrNot style application – the user is shown a face and then rates it according to how attractive they find the person.

Aeneon Xtune DDR3-1333 2GB Memory Kit

February 29th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Memory) - Aeneon Xtune DDR3-1333 2GB Memory Kit

QUOTE: “Aeneon memory is a division of Qimonda, a German memory manufacturer which is also a division of Infineon Technologies. While Infineon has been around for quite some time, Aeneon hasn’t made any major jumps into the DRAM market, so it’s about time we see a new player come in.

Aeneon has rated these modules for 1333MHz with a timing rating of 8-8-8-24, which is about normal for 1333MHz modules. The SPD doesn’t support Intel’s XMP setup, but this doesn’t stop them from running on X38/X48 chipsets.”

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale CPU @ HotHardware.com

February 29th, 2008 by Kristofer

We’re writing to let you all know that we have just posted a new article at HotHardware in which we evaluate the features and performance of Intel’s recently released, Wolfdale-based Core 2 Duo E8500 processor.  The E8500 uses Intel’s 45nm Penryn derived Wolfdale core, with a 3.16GHz clock speed, 6MB of L2 cache, and support for SSEE4.1.  Overall, even in its stock configuration this processor was a strong performer, while consuming less power than Intel’s 65nm processors.  But while overclocked to over 4GHz on air-cooling alone, it put up some truly impressive benchmark scores.  Head on over to the site and take a look…

Scythe “KAZE MASTER” 3.5″ Multi Channel Bay Fan Controller Review @ DragonSteelMods

February 28th, 2008 by Kristofer

Stock fans do their job, but most enthusiasts out there will toss those stock fans and replace them with higher airflow ones or quieter ones depending on the need. The one problem though is that the majority of fans out there today don’t come with any type of fan controller, sure you could get PWM fans or you could control them through a software program but that’s not always the best way to do it. Some of us out there like to have full control over our fans, allowing us to turn them to full speed when we feel the need to or even slow them down to quiet our systems.

Scythe is a very well known manufacturer of cooling products and lately they’ve ventured more into accessories as well, we’ve reviewed some of their fans before. Today I’ve got the new Kaze Master 3.5” Multi-Channel Bay Fan Controller for review, but it does more than control fans it includes temperature probes to help you monitor temperatures of things in your case. The Kaze Master features a VFD display that shows the fan speeds and temperatures of two fans and two probes, it has two knobs as well to adjust the fans speed and even a shut-off function as well. The Kaze Master is very well made as is can be expected of a product from Scythe, and can be a valuable and informative addition to anyones system.

Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 Motherboard Review @ OCModShop

February 28th, 2008 by Kristofer

First and foremost, this review is a long time coming, why? Because, I had to buy a CPU and memory just to test the darn thing. But once I did, I finally got up and running quite quickly. I purchased a Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 and 1 gig of appropriate memory. I then placed this equipment into my favoritest (and my wifes) case, the Antec P180b.

But the board itself is quite affordable for any level of computer builder. Gigabyte has provided us a board that has big time functions but not a big time price. A newer series board with all the bells and whistles for a new operating system (Vista), a host of easy to use BIOS menus and some other extras that you don’t find in more expensive boards. Yes, the GA-945P-S3 is a value at the price.

Thermaltake BigWater 760i Liquid Cooling System Review @ Virtual-Hideout

Title: Thermaltake BigWater 760i Liquid Cooling System Review @ Virtual-Hideout

Review link: http://www.virtual-hideout.net/reviews/Thermaltake_760i_BigWater/index.shtml

Quote: “Overall, the Thermaltake 760i BigWater Liquid Cooling System is one efficient compact liquid cooling system. Not only does it integrate nicely in to your chassis, it’ll also compliment most any system you want to assemble. Thermaltake took the time to preassemble some things and make the installation process much simpler. All these factors have made it a very easy system to use and should be simple enough for any and every user wanting to make a change in the way the CPU is cooled.”

Cooler Master Sphere CPU Cooler Review @ OCIA.net

February 28th, 2008 by Kristofer

OCIA.net has posted their review of the Cooler Master Sphere CPU Cooler.  Below is a direct quote from the review:

The Sphere is an all-copper, quad heatpipe and fin CPU cooler shaped like, you guessed it, a ball. It comes with a single-speed radial fan built in, instead of the typical axial fan you find on most CPU coolers. The radial output of the fan helps to cool other components in the immediate vicinity of the CPU socket. This combination of round-shaped fins and radial output fan put the sphere into a fairly unique class of cooler?

Digit-Life Review: Logitech MX Air Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse

Excerpt:
“Devices like Logitech MX Air are not very popular or very profitable. But noblesse oblige, Logitech can afford it, so why not? This mouse is not the first concept from this company. It’s hard to say whether this device will survive in the market, but it’s certainly interesting and very unusual.”

Edifier 2.1 Multimedia Speakers - Affordable Class - BCCHardware

February 28th, 2008 by Kristofer

We have been listening to the Edifier E3350 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System recently and have just posted a review on these affordable, stylish speakers.  Besides looking good, head on over and find out if they sound good or if they are more of a display item rather than a functional item.  They have a very unique design so it’s worth a look.  Check our review for all the details.

Quote:
I never had a chance to watch many movies with these speakers, but I did make sure I sat down for a bit of quality time to watch Rush Hour 3 and Resident Evil: Extinction.  These movies sounded very well on the E3350s and in a small room they are more than adequate for watching movies on your computer by yourself or with some friends.

VIA EPIA-SN Mini-ITX Motherboard

February 28th, 2008 by Kristofer

NEW CONTENT (Motherboards) - VIA EPIA-SN Mini-ITX Motherboard

QUOTE: “Our first look at the EPIA boards really opened our eyes; while others were criticizing the board for its lack of CPU power, EPIA was never intending to take the place of high-end CPUs. In fact, its aim is to make its way into the silent PC and HTPC market, and with the newest generation of features.

Today’s test candidate is VIA’s newest EPIA kid on the block. For quite some time there has been criticism that no graphics card upgradability was offered, but today that changes thanks to the EPIA-SN.”

Quote from the review:
“The coolest feature of the Belkin N1 Vision wireless router is the built-in LCD display that shows information about the router at a glance.
The screens show date and time, download speed, connected devices, traffic from connected devices in the past 24 hours, upload and download speeds, and a pictorial representation of your network that makes it easy to tell where problems with your connection are happening.”

Title: ATI TV Wonder HD 600 PCI & HD 650 Combo USB @ Techgage

Quote: AMD recently released two new ATI TV Wonder HD tuners, both of which have been in our lab for the past few months. In that time, we’ve put them through numerous tests to see what each one was made of. While the 600 PCI left a bit to be desired, the 650 Combo USB proves to do a lot of things right.

Mushkin HP2-6400 4GB Memory Review @ Ninjalane

February 28th, 2008 by Kristofer

Ninjalane has just posted their review of the mid-range performance memory from Mushkin, the HP2-6400, this is a 4GB kit that actually overclocks quite well.

Subject: Mushkin HP2-6400 4GB Memory Review @ Ninjalane
URL: http://www.ninjalane.com/display.aspx?docname=mushkin-hp2-6400

Feel free to sample a small quote from the article or use the one provided below.
Quote “Knowing that size plays a deciding factor in performance what separates one module from another? In a word, speed. Every module is assigned a speed rating from the manufacture that is largely dependent on the quality of the chips but can also be affected by module (PCB) design, the voltage requirements, and settings required to maintain a given level of performance. This roughly translates into frequency and latency.”
