CES 2008 Day 4 @ ASE Labs

January 11th, 2008 by Kristofer

CES is finally over.

” Trust is a company that makes input devices and other peripherals. They have a huge presence in Europe and just announced the American launch of their products at CES. Trust is on the same tier as Logitech in terms of support and products offered. They offer many products that are extremely well designed and it really looks like they will give Logitech great competition which the market always needs. ”

Icemat Audio Black Siberia Multi Headset Review

Icemat Audio Black Siberia Multi Headset Review motherboards.org

Author: Jon Russell Date: 01-10-2007

The Black Siberia headphones represent a good midrange option when it comes to gaming headsets. The extra long cord, detachable microphone as well the independent controls are great additions that set these headphones apart from most. Add to that the quality of construction of the headphones and you have setup that is well worth your money and probably outlast most other headsets in the same category. While the sound from the speakers could have been better for the price they are well within the accepted standards.

Microsoft apologizes to Corel

Posted: 10 Jan 2008 08:59 AM CST

Microsoft Corp. yesterday apologized to rival software vendor Corel Corp. for saying that Corel’s file format posed a security risk. Microsoft also issued new tools to let users of Office 2003 SP3 unblock a host of barred file types.

In a posting to his own blog, David LeBlanc, a senior software development engineer with the Microsoft Office team, admitted the company’s mistake in attributing security problems to certain file formats, including the one used by CorelDraw.

OLPC with both Windows and Linux

Posted: 10 Jan 2008 08:59 AM CST

Slashdot It!

The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project and Microsoft Corp. are working together to develop a dual-boot system to put both Linux and Windows on laptops aimed at kids in developing countries, the head of OLPC said in an interview Tuesday.

“We are working with them very closely to make a dual-boot system so that, like on an Apple, you can boot either one up. The version that’s up and running of Windows on the XO is very fast, it’s very, very successful. We’re working very hard to do both,” said Nicholas Negroponte, chairman of OLPC.

Benchmark Reviews Experiences 2008 International CES

January 11th, 2008 by Kristofer

TITLE: Benchmark Reviews Experiences 2008 International CES

DESCRIPTION: This is my short story of a first year visit to the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) which began in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 7th, 2008.  Prior to starting Benchmark Reviews in March 2007, I had only heard of the aftermath and accolades from the stories handed down from affiliate webmasters from the previous years’ CES.  Since I am a resident of Nevada, I feel the gravitational pull of Las Vegas more than a few times per year; most in part to my competitions twice per year in the Grapplers Quest National Tournaments.  But this year I was on a mission: meet the manufacturers, ask the important questions, and attend the parties.  This is a diary of the most interesting experiences while I attended the 2008 International CES convention, and the lessons I learned the hard way.  This article is dedicated to anyone who is considering, planning, or just slightly curious in joining the crowd in Sin City.

Zalman ZM-VFC2 Multi Fan Controller Review @ OCModShop

January 11th, 2008 by Kristofer

Zalman computer products have been advertising the silencing factor of their products for many years. Most of their heatsinks are even packaged with their “Fanmate” to let the user adjust the fan’s RPMs, thereby reducing the noise the fan produces. To achieve a virtually silent computer, some users have used several Fanmates or other rheostats to reduce noise, but since these devices are inside your computer they cannot be easily accessed to dynamically adjust.
This is where Fan Controllers come in, as they allow you to control several different fans from the front of your computer, and usually have an indicator of their performance. Zalman has released their ZM-MFC2 Multi Fan Controller, which is the evolution of their previous fan controller the ZM-MFC 1.

Zalman’s has updated everything about this Fan Controller for the 21st century. The device not only supports 4 seperate fans and temperature sensors, but also tells you how much power your PC is using, and displays it all on a very bright, multi-colored VFD display, and each fan is controlled digitally via a jog dial and buttons!
